I'm Kyle Anderson, PokerNews ambassador and Ontario resident. Here is an update on everything that's both happened and is coming up in the Ontario poker world.

Live Poker News

At October's MSPT Canadian Poker Championship in Montreal, Jinrong Zhang became the tour's first international champion, topping a field of 1,057 entries and winning $165,000 CAD. That made it one of Ontario/Canada’s biggest live poker stories of the season.

“This is a really big score for sure,” Zhang told MSPT after the victory. “To all the players, hold onto your dreams. Do what you can do with your game and leave the rest to the poker gods.”

There were more than a dozen events across the MSPT Canadian Poker Championship stop at Playground. In total, the series generated $2,094,855 in prize pools in events with buy-ins ranging from $250 to $2,200.

Meanwhile, the WSOP Circuit is back at Playground Poker Club. The stop kicked off on November 3 and will run through November 18 with over $6 million CAD in guaranteed prize pools.

The Main Event buy‑in is listed at $2,500 CAD, and there are 18 official ring events. Thousands of Canadian players are expected to compete.

Ontario Online Poker News

The microFestival returned on GGPoker Ontario on November 2 and will run through November 16. Buy‑ins start at $2.50 CAD and up to $25 CAD, and a total series guarantee of $300K CAD, with $100K CAD of that guaranteed in the Main Event. It's an excellent opportunity for low‑buy‑in grinders, and you can find out all the information here.

GGPoker Ontario is also running its “Road to Paradise” qualifier series for the WSOP Paradise Super Main Event in the Bahamas. The qualifier package value is $41,000 CAD, including entry to the $25,000 USD Super Main Event. Players can qualify for seats via satellites starting at low buy‑ins (e.g., $1.50 CAD) and freerolls. This is a major path to live poker travel for Ontarians.

Eligible iGames conducted and managed by iGO are only available to those physically present in the Province of Ontario. PokerStars Ontario operates pursuant to an agreement with iGaming Ontario.
