The payouts in Event #5: $250,000 Triton Invitational are astronomical, with seven players set to cash for a million dollars or more.

So spare a thought for Cong Pham, who exited in eighth place after suffering a brutal elimination at the hands of runaway chip leader Kayhan Mokri, and would have to settle for just $967,000.

A Flip to Stay Alive

The $250,000 Triton Invitational had started with 15 players remaining, but it wasn't long before play was down to a single table of nine. Start-of-day chip leader Kayhan Mokri had picked up where he left off on Day 2, and already knocked out high roller regular Mikita Badziakouski.

The Norwegian led the final table, and after Monika Hrabec had left in ninth place for $771,000, the tournament was one elimination away from locking up seven-figure scores for the remaining players.

Kayhan Mokri

Pham opened to 450,000 from late position, with Mokri seated two places to his left. Mokri shoved, with Tyler Stafman and Thomas Boivin folding in the blinds. Pham sat with 26 big blinds and called for his tournament life.

Cong Pham: AK
Kayhan Mokri: 99

It was a classic flip, and Pham received the help he needed and more, improving to trips on the AA7 flop. The turn was the Q, meaning that Mokri was down to just two outs to eliminate Pham.

The river was the 9, improving Mokri to a full house and eliminating Pham in brutal fashion.

The State of Play

Mokri chipped up to hold almost 90 big blinds seven-handed. Spanish high roller regular Sergio Aido fell in seventh place, as the remaining players mounted some sort of comeback against the Norwegian.

The tournament plays down to a winner today, with the winner walking away with an astronomical $7,725,000. Follow along to the live updates right here on PokerNews!
