The Theory of Poker author David Sklansky was arrested in Las Vegas on Thursday and charged with domestic battery, PokerNews confirmed.

It is unclear the specifics of the accusations against the old-school poker pro. Police were unable to provide details about the investigation. But an online inmate search on the Las Vegas Detention Center's website showed the 78-year-old author arrived in custody on Jan. 29 and was scheduled for his initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. on the same day. A $3,000 cash bail was set.

Sklansky is the author of 14 gambling related books, most notably the iconic The Theory of Poker, considered by many to be the most important poker strategy book ever. The book, written in 1994, ranks right up there with Doyle Brunson's Super/System 2 (1978) among the all-time top sellers.

The longtime grinder is a three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and has $1.4 million in The Hendon Mob tournament cashes. But he's more of a mixed cash game player who still frequents Las Vegas card rooms.

Sklansky is facing some legal issues for an allegedly violent incident. Domestic battery in Nevada for a first-time offender is typically a misdemeanor, but there are instances where the crime can be a felony. Nevada law for a first offense misdemeanor conviction calls for a fine of $200 to $1,000 with six months of counseling, community service, and a suspended jail sentence.

Sklansky, who is nicknamed "The Mathematician" for advocating a mathematical approach to poker in the 1970s, won two WSOP bracelets in 1982 and his most recent one in 1983. He appeared on numerous televised poker shows during the 2000s, including the Poker Superstars, which aired on Fox Sports Net during the height of the poker boom.

Sklansky bailed out and was released from jail on Friday.
