888poker RAKELESS Mystery Main Event

The latest $109 buy-in, $100,000 guaranteed Mystery Main Event has crowned its champion at 888poker. Step forward and take a bow "HayashiJoao" of Brazil, who left a trail of 845 foes in their wake as they clinched the title and received a $12,593 total prize for their efforts.

As has been the case for a few weeks now, this week's Mystery Main Event was RAKELESS, meaning every cent of the $109 buy-in went into the prize pool. Despite this, there was again an overlay, which makes this tournament one of the best-value in the online poker world right now.

Day 1 took place on April 12 and saw the 846-strong crowd reduced to the final table of eight. 888poker ambassador Aaron "abarone68" Barone went deep, eventually coming unstuck in 17th place for a total haul worth $1,163.

All of the largest bounties were snapped up during the first day's play, including one tipping the scales at an impressive $10,000. The United Kingdom's "arcis1984" got their hands on that princely sum.

Even with eight players at the final table, the ball was firmly in the hands of Ireland's "Kassir27." They sat down with 133 big blinds in their stack, almost four times as many chips as anyone else. Only nine big blinds separated "icho90" in second place and "MrKeylow" in sixth. "HayashiJoao" sat down in the middle of the pack with 33 big blinds at their disposal.

The first finalist busted within the first 10 minutes; "ciaudi" was that unfortunate soul. They started Day 2 with the shortest stack and committed their last nine big blinds with ace-jack after "Kassir27" had min-raised in early position. "Kassir27" called the shove with ace-nine, flopped a nine, and sent "ciaudi" to the sidelines.

888poker regular "CurrD" couldn't get any traction and had to ultimately make do with a seventh-place finish. They open-shoved from the cutoff with pocket eights for a little under 6.5 big blinds. "MrKeylow" three-bet all-in for 15 big blinds from the small blind with ace-jack of spades, and "Kassir27" cold called with pocket sixes in the big blind. "MrKeylow" flopped a jack, turned trips, and improved to a full house on the river to end "CurrD"'s night prematurely.

The tournament took a twist on the 40-minute mark when "Kassir27" doubled up "icho90." "Kassir27" min-raised with ace-queen from under the gun, "icho90" three-bet on the button with ace-king of spades, and then called all-in when "Kassir27" shoved for 24 big blinds effective. Neither player improved, and "icho90" doubled through the one-time runaway chip leader.

Sixth-place was decided just over an hour into proceedings. "icho90" min-raised from under the gnu with pocket sizes, "Gaturro77" three-bet with ace-jack of hearts from the next seat along, leaving themselves with only three big blinds behind. "Vitento then four-bet all-in for 20.6 big blinds from the small blind with ace-king. "icho90" ducked out of the way, but "Gaturro77" called. "icho90" would have flopped quads had they made a loose call. However, that was irrelevant, as "Vitento"'s ace-king held, leaving only five players in the hunt for the title.

Those five became four with the elimination of "Vitento." First to act, "Vitento" raised to six big blinds, leaving only two more behind. "Kassir27m" now down to only 19 big blinds, shoved and was called. It was pocket nines against ace-nine for the at-risk player. An ace on the turn was not what "Vitento" wanted to see, and they exited in fifth place.

"icho90" was the next player relieved of their chips after losing a coinflip to "HayashiJoao," who jammed all-in from the button with pocket threes. "icho90" called off their 8.8 big blinds with ace-seven in the small blind, and no help arrived on the board.

Three-handed play lasted less than 10 minutes, ending with the demise of "Kassir27." "MrKeylow" completed the small blind with ace-jack of diamonds before wasting no time in calling the 21.2 big blind shove from "Kassir27," who revealed the dominated ace-five. According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, "MrKeylow" was a 90% favorite to win the hand on the king-jack-ten courtesy of hitting middle pair with a flush redraw. A nine on the turn gave "Kassir27" some chop outs, but a brick on the river sent the Irish player to the rail.

Only 3.6 big blinds separated the heads-up duo, with "MrKeylow" holding a narrow advantage. That changed early into the one-on-one battle when "HayashiJoao" flopped a king-high flush and was paid off by "MrKeylow" holding pocket queens.

That hand left "MrKeylow" with less than 10 big blinds, and trailing eight-to-one.

The final hand saw "MrKeylow" raise to 5.1 big blinds, leaving a solitary big blind behind, while holding jack-eight. "HayashiJoao" called with ten-seven and called when "MrKeylow" committed their last big blind. A ten on the turn gave "HayashiJoao" the lead, with a king on the river busting "MrKeylow" in second place, a finish good for $7,123.

"HayashiJoao" became the latest in a long line of Brazilian players to triumph in the $100,000 Mystery Main Event. Their victory came with $12,593 reasons to be delighted with their performance.
