100 Essential Tips to Master Pot-Limit Omaha

Four cards are better than two. That’s what some people say when they talk about the great game of Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO). Arguably the second-most popular poker variant behind no-limit hold’em, PLO is a fun, fast-paced game, albeit often intimidating.

Now, one of the world’s best PLO players, Fernando “JNandez” Habegger, is once again helping bring the game to the masses with his new book, 100 Essential Tips to Master Pot-Limit Omaha, by D+B Publishing.

It marks Habegger’s second PLO book after Mastering Small Stakes Pot-Limit Omaha.

The book “cuts through that complexity and shows you how the game really works and what you need to focus on.” Here’s a bit more from the book’s description:

Each section focuses on a key strategic concept — stack size, position, blockers, hand structure, heads-up versus multiway play, and more. Clear explanations show why these ideas matter and are backed up by carefully designed quizzes that challenge you to apply them in realistic situations. The learning experience is enhanced as you are asked to consider your choices with different holdings in similar scenarios. This helps you to understand how you handle your whole range. Rather than memorizing rigid rules, you’ll learn to recognize the underlying logic that drives winning PLO decisions.

Fun Fact according to the Book: Hold’em has 1,326 possible starting hands. PLO has 270,725 … It is roughly 204 times more starting combinations, before you account for a single thing that actually happens in a hand.

The book, which comes in at 376 pages, was released on October 27 and retails for $29.99 on Amazon. However, you can get it for $24.95 via the D+B Publishing website. Available in both paperback and ebook formats, the book also features a foreword by noted poker author and coach Jonathan Little.

The book is keenly constructed, with each chapter focusing on a component of a PLO hand – such as ranges, equity, and stack-to-pot ratio – before putting it all together in the end by having you “play hands from preflop to river and find out whether your thinking stays coherent as the pot grows and the ranges narrow.”

As JNandez says, “That is the real test, because that is the real game.”

Indeed, 100 Essential Tips to Master Pot-Limit Omaha is more than just a book about what PLO is, it’s an engrossing instructional manual on exactly how the game is played successfully.

When it comes to PLO, there are few people more accomplished than Habegger, who has amassed more than $1 million in lifetime live tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob.

Almost all of that has come in PLO events, including $330,344 for finishing second to “Texas” Mike Moncek in the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Online Event #6: $5,000 NLH/PLO and $181,400 for placing runner-up to Ben Lamb in the 2025 PGT PLO Series II Event #4: $10,000 PLO.

Habegger is the leading coach at PLOMastermind.com. He is also a former PokerStars SuperNova Elite and cash game specialist, so when it comes to learning PLO, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better teacher, and in the case of this book, a better text from which to learn.
