StakeKings' Team Jones & Team Mitchell Battling in Arizona Poker Championship
The 19th annual Arizona State Poker Championship is underway at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, and two StakeKings teams are currently battling it out with a few hundred players remaining.
Team Jones and Team Mitchell are matched against one another on StakeKings, with Team Jones led by 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event runner-up Steven Jones and Team Mitchell headed by Arizona poker pro Brandon Mitchell.
Both teams still had three players left standing on Monday in the Arizona State Poker Championship, a $1,100 buy-in event that drew 3,546 total entries — making it the largest-ever Arizona State Poker Championship — and will award $500,000 to the eventual winner.
Which Team Will Pull Ahead?
While Team Jones captain Steven Jones is no longer in the event, his teammates left standing include Colton Blomberg, Greg Brown, and StakeKings CEO Tyler Hancock, who had a deep run of his own in the WSOP Main Event earlier this summer.
Jones' fellow teammates Jonah Labranche and 2023 GPI Mid-Major Player of the Year Nick Pupillo.
Meanwhile, Team Mitchell captain Brandon Mitchell is still alive alongside teammates Ari Shin and Tom Steinbach, while his fellow teammates Greg Porter, Kai Cohen and Nate Paytas are no longer in the event.
Jones, best known for his runner-up finish to Daniel Weinman in the 2023 WSOP Main Event, has had previous success in the Arizona State Poker Championship. In 2024, he finished 16th for $18,782, besting a 21st-place finish the previous year that earned him $13,140. The year before that, he finished 12th for $14,536.
Mitchell, who has $967,225 in Hendon Mob earnings, finished 19th in last year's event for $16,220.
