Big Stack and Big Names

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Chip leader Andrea Salamone was moved over to a new table to balance the action and he found himself up against several notables with solid stack sizes. Jesus Cortes, Gereon Sowa, Vicente Delgago and Jon Gurrutxaga are among them, and Heorhii Doroshev has also already scored a big result on the Spanish poker circuit.

Menhardt Eliminated; Jacobson Joins

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

A raise in early position to 3,500 saw Julian Menhardt on the button shove for 52,800 and Daniel Rueda Merino in the big blind pushed over the top. The initial raiser folded and the cards were turned over.

Julian Menhardt: {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Daniel Rueda Merino: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop left Menhardt in need of running outs, but the Austrian was left drawing dead as soon as the {3-Clubs} followed on the turn. A meaningless {9-Hearts} came on the river and Rueda Merino claimed the pot.

Two seats were open on the table and they were filled with 2017 champion Luigi Shehadeh and 888poker ambassador Martin Jacobson on a late entry.

Oghbabian Doubles Through Castells

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The seat of Svitlana Derevlianko is now occupied by Milad Oghabian, who arrived with a short stack. Soon after, Oghabian three-bet all in for 17,600 and initial raiser Roger Castells called.

Milad Oghabian: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Roger Castells: {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop gave big stack Castells more outs with an open-ender, but the {k-Clubs} turn and {6-Spades} river were blanks. Also on the table is Kully Sidhu, who has re-entered on Day 1c and has an above-average stack with 100 players remaining.

Piraux Eliminated

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Matthijs van den Broek raised to 4,200 and picked up one caller. Romain Piraux jammed for around 35,000 and van den Broek was the only caller with {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}. Piraux had the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and remained ahead on the {8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop and the {2-Clubs} turn.

However, the {a-Diamonds} river improved the Dutchman and Piraux headed to the rail.

Shehadeh Out in Two Hands

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Martin Jacobson
Martin Jacobson

Luigi Shehadeh sent over a decent portion of his stack to Martin Jacobson and things got even worse after when he was involved in a three-bet pot against Alberto Flores Trujillo. The Spaniard continued for 13,000 on a {10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop and got it in after the {6-Hearts} turn with {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}.

Shehadeh only had {a-}{10-} and the {6-Spades} river bricked off.

Down to 13,000, Shehadeh jammed the very next hand and Jacobson looked him up.

Luigi Shehadeh: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Martin Jacobson: {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

A possible comeback for the 2017 champion and 2018 finalist of this very event ended in a cruel run out, as the {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Spades} board gave Jacobson a set on the river.

Three Last Hands

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Pedro Lamarca was eliminated just before the clocks were stopped when his ace-ten ran into ace-king. Pedro Cairat was also in the hand and had accidentally turned over jacks. He then folded a king-high turn and dropped to around the starting stack.

Adrian Costin Constantin and Martin Jacobson increased their stacks some more, and Andrea Salamone appears to be in the prime position for the Day 1c chip lead right now.

Three more hands will be dealt for tonight.

Byrne Takes a Hit; Sanfilippo More Than Doubles

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Patrick Sanfilippo
Patrick Sanfilippo

Daiva Byrne lost a big portion of her stack with queens to kings in the final level of the night and Tom-Aksel Bedell also had to forfeit some chips when he flopped top pair. A short stack had been all in with {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Bedell as well as Patrick Sanfilippo got it in after the {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop.

Bedell had {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}, but Sanfilippo was way ahead with the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. The {7-Clubs} turn and {9-Spades} river changed nothing and the Italian doubled for around 50,000.
