No Spades For Dominguez

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Abedel Douair in the small blind raked in the pot after sending Francisco Dominguez in the cutoff to the rail, who left the table with a "suerte", wishing everyone else good luck. Douair had flopped top pair with {a-Spades}{j-Clubs} on a board of {j-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{10-Clubs} board while Dominguez had put his hopes on {q-Spades}{4-Spades} for a flushdraw.

Barnes Tangles With Carballo Campana

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

Scotsman Deryck Barnes opened the action with a raise to 2,000 and Manuel Carballo Campana in the cutoff glanced over.

"It is 2,000," Barnes grinned and Carballo Campana then three-bet to 6,200, which Barnes called. On a flop of {10-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Barnes c checked and faced a bet worth 9,200. That ended the hand right there as Barnes was not willing to invest any further chips.

He got some of them back soon after but remains below the starting stack for now. Carballo Campana has the most chips at the table ahead of Ebony Kenney.

"Let's Do This"

Level 7 : 400/800, 800 ante

A frustrating Day 1a ended with the elimination just shy of bagging and tagging for the Aspers Casino London tournament director John Scanlon. He walked into the tournament area during the break with a fresh stack and seat assignment, and the words "let's do this."

Marius Gicovanu re-entered and somehow ended up on the same seat, which he wasn't too upset about as his previous table image might get lighter calls as a result. Also in as of level seven is Frenchman Sonny Franco, who min-cashed the €2,200 High Roller.

Break After Level Six

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Day 1b has increased to 234 entries with very few seats open spread over two rooms and the third scheduled break of the day has kicked off after the end of level six. Around 199 players remain and get to pick up some fresh air for the next 15 minutes.

Two for Spiega

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Khalil Youssafi opened to 1,200 and picked up no fewer than five callers including Carmen Zainescu in the cutoff and Raimundas Spiega in the big blind. Somehow all six players checked through a board of {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} and the big blind showed {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a slowplayed full house.

Spiega had that beat with {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and dragged in the pot.

Spiega then check-called three streets on a {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades} board for 3,500, 6,000 and 10,200. His opponent mucked and Spiega won the pot without having to show his cards.

Quan Loses a Few Chips

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

Da Quan defended her small blind and ended up check-calling a bet of 7,200 on the {7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} river.

"Flush," her opponent announced and rolled over {q-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Quan mucked and dropped a few chips from her above-average stack.

End of the Road for Gicovanu

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante

The cards of Marius Gicovanu were already in the muck as he could not beat the second nuts on a board of {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Since sitting down on his table, Gicovanu's stack was cut down consistently and the end came against {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}.

Whether or not he will re-enter now or on the following day remains to be seen.
