Day 1de Completed

Francisco Salvador Dominates, Maogen Fu Continues His Hot Streak on Day 1d of the 888poker Live Glasgow Main Event

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Francisco Salvador

A lucky ace in the window served as the catalyst for Francisco Salvador dominating Day 1d of the 888poker Live Glasgow Main Event.

Salvador ran his ace-king into Yuzhou Yin’s kings and barely had his opponent covered as his tournament was virtually at stake. But he found the ace on the flop and secured the knockout, never looking back on his way to a massive chip lead. Salvador also made a full house against Nick Eastwood and got paid off on a big river bet on his way to bagging up 508,500 and the overall chip lead heading into Day 2.

Right behind him is a player already enjoying a spectacular week inside the Grosvenor Casino Merchant City. Maogen Fu beat a 72-player field to win the High Roller yesterday for £28,500. Two days earlier, he had finished atop a 138-player field in the Big Shot for £9,090. With already two trophies to his credit during the festival, he took a crack at the Main Event today and picked up right where he left off, finishing second on the leaderboard with 376,000.

A total of 32 players out of 157 entries survived the day. Harry Cattanach (281,000), Andrew Hawksby (271,500), and Gavin Naughton (247,000) round out the top five biggest stacks. Matthew Davenport scored two late bustouts to finish with 194,000, while 2019 EPT Monte Carlo finalist Viktor Katzenberger (131,000) and David Algarra (116,500) also secured their spots into Day 2. Jack Hardcastle (46,000) finally found a bag on his sixth bullet of the tournament.

Eastwood built up a stack of more than 100,000 at one point today but couldn’t recover after taking that big dent against Salvador and hit the rail. Fellow 888poker pros Lucia Navarro and Ricardo Mateus also failed to make it through, as did Sinead Davenport, Thomas Hall, Robbie Bull, and David Docherty.

The 157 entries today brought the field up to 290. With currently 28 players in the turbo Day 1e flight, the field eclipsed 300 and surpassed the £250,000 guaranteed prize pool. There is also a turbo Day 1f flight tomorrow at 11 a.m., with late registration remaining open until the start of Day 2 at 5 p.m.

PokerNews will be back tomorrow as the race to the money bubble and the final table begins.

Callum Gordon
Callum Gordon

Heads-up on a flop of 10J8, Gajanthan Kamalanathan bet 10,000 from early position, Callum Gordon moved all in for 40,000 in the big blind, and Kamalanathan snap-called.

Callum Gordon: KQ All in
Gajanthan Kamalanathan: Q10 All in

Gordon was chasing a straight draw, while Kamalanathan had a pair and flush draw. The 5 turn was no help for Gordon, while Kamalanathan secured the pot once the 3 completed the board on the river to send Gordon to the rail.

Naughton Cracks Hall's Aces For a Bustout

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Thomas Hall
Thomas Hall

With around 25,000 in the pot on a flop of QJ7, Thomas Hall got in his last 60,000 from the cutoff as Gavin Naughton put him at risk in middle position.

Thomas Hall: AA All in
Gavin Naughton: 109

Hall showed down two aces but had to dodge Naughton's flush and straight draws to stay alive. The K turn was a disaster as Naughton made his straight, while the J river sent Hall to the rail with just a few minutes left in the day.

Haughey Shows an Ace; Salvador Running Away From the Field

Level 14 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante

Francisco Salvador raised to 6,000 under the gun and received four callers.

Five-handed to the 664 flop, Salvador continued for 12,000 and only William Haughey in middle position and Gary Scullion in the cutoff called.

Salvador slowed down and checked the 10 turn and Haughey bet 17,000. Scullion called once more, while Salvador got out of the way.

Haughey then bet 40,000 on the 10 river and Scullion quickly folded. Haughey showed the A as he took the pot.

Salvador busted Daniel Gormley on the previous hand as he built up a massive stack in the closing moments of the day. Richard Heveli was also recently eliminated at this table.
