A throng of players will descend on the Grosvenor Casino Merchant City today, each taking their shot at the 888poker Live Glasgow £888 Main Event title when Day 1b begins at noon local time.

The opening flight yesterday attracted 75 entries, with 16 players securing their spot on Day 2. Gaoyang Yang, who already won the Mini Main Event earlier this week, bagged the chip lead with 319,000, while Vivian Saliba (150,500) and streamers Darius Wajda (51,000) and Nick Eastwood (44,000) are flying the flag for the 888poker team.

Players on Day 1b begin with a 30,000 starting stack. The schedule calls for 14 40-minute levels to be played today, with a break after every three levels. There are also two turbo flights still to come, Day 1c tonight at 8 p.m. and Day 1d at 11 a.m. tomorrow. All survivors from the four opening flights will then combine for Day 2 at 5 p.m. on March 21. Late registration remains open until the start of play on Day 2.

Dean Lyall won the inaugural version of this event last year, beating out a field of 407 entries to earn £58,130. Lyall, who just missed out on the final table of the High Roller yesterday, will likely be back to defend his title, but he’ll have to combat a sea of players trying to snatch it away today.
