Can 888poker Ambassador Ian Simpson Make a Deep Run on Day 3?

Ian Simpson
Ian Simpson

There will be 39 players returning to the felt on Day 3 of the €1,100 888poker Live Madrid 20th Anniversary Edition being held at the Gran Madrid Casino. The bubble burst late in the night on Day 2 and the remaining players have all locked up a piece of the nearly €350,000 prizepool.

There is only one 888poker team member still remaining in the field and that title belongs to Ian Simpson who finished Day 2 with a sub-average stack of 415,000 chips. Simpson had an up-and-down day at the felt, being forced to re-enter once but then quickly spun it up to over 1,000,000 chips at the feature table. However, some late-night shenanigans on the bubble saw Simpson slip down the rank and he will have his work cut out for him when the action resumes.

Everyone will have their sights set on chip leader Sebastian Moreno who will enter the day with a massive lead on the rest of the field. Moreno bagged up a stack of 2,950,000 chips, far and away ahead of anyone else. Moreno collected a huge portion of his stack by eliminating Paulo Ponciano on the money bubble to bring an end to Day 2. The next closest stack belongs to Francisco Fernandez with 2,080,000.

The action is slated to resume at 12 p.m. noon local time and will be a quick turnaround for players who bagged their chips just after 3 a.m. last night. There will be 18 minutes remaining in level 21 with the blinds resuming at 10,000/25,000 and a 25,000 big blind ante. The levels will continue at 45 minutes until level 25 where they will increase to 60 minutes in length. There is no guarantee that the tournament will finish today and an extra day may be required depending on the pace of the tournament.

The PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates throughout the day en route to crowning a champion.
