Day 2 Completed

Moreno Bags Massive Chip Leading Heading Into the Final Day

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Sebastian Moreno

The money has been reached late on Day 2 of the €1,100 888poker Live Madrid 20th Anniversary Edition and the remaining 39 players will return to the felt tomorrow for Day 3 of the tournament. After late registration was closed, a total of 374 entries were recorded and the remaining players will be battling for the €349,241 prizepool.

The players were finally able to bag up their chips at 3 a.m. thanks to eventual chip leader Sebastian Moreno who finished the day with a healthy 2,950,000 chips. In the last hand of the night, Moreno put his opponent to the test for his entire stack and ran out a flush to eliminate Paulo Ponciano on the money bubble.

Moreno ran up a stack earlier in the day and then started to coast until the last few hands of the night. Keeping with his aggressive play style, Moreno was able to bag a massive chip lead over the rest of the field. Some of the other big stacks heading into Day 3 include Francisco Fernandez (2,080,000), Oleksii Koiev (1,850,000), Jimmy Castano (1,690,000), Vitor Pimieuto (1,400,000), and Paulo Castelo (1,315,000).

There is only one 888poker ambassador left in the field and that accomplishment goes to Ian Simpson who finished Day 2 with 415,000 chips. Simpson spent some time on the feature table when he started to run up a stack and put it in cruise control to end the night. Other 888poker team members that were not as successful throughout the day included Chris Eubank Jr, Vivian Saliba, Josh Manley, and Alexandre Mantovani who was eliminated just short of the money.

It will be a quick turnaround for the remaining players as they are due back on the felt in less than nine hours. The action is scheduled to resume at 12:00 noon local time with 18 minutes remaining in Level 21. The blinds will be 10,000/25,000 with a 25,000 big blind ante when the cards go back in the air. The current plan is to play down to a winner but there have been some talks of extending the tournament an extra day if it is prolonged.

The PokerNews staff will be back on the tournament floor to bring you all of the live updates en route to crowning a champion in the coming days.

Moreno Eliminates Ponciano on the Bubble

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Paulo Ponciano raised it up from the cutoff and Sebastian Moreno was ready to apply the pressure as the big stack. He shoved all in from the big blind and Ponciano took his time before calling off his stack of around 650,000.

Paulo Ponciano: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Sebastian Moreno: {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The flop of {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} provided a sweat as Moreno picked up a flush draw. The {10-Diamonds} on the turn left Ponciano in the lead but the {4-Hearts} on the river gave Moreno a flush. Ponciano was eliminated on the money bubble and the remaining 39 players will now bag up their chips for the night.

A Four-Bet from Koiev

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

Sebastian Moreno opened to 50,000 in early position and the player on his left three-bet to 145,000. Oleksii Koiev was next to act and stuck in a four-bet to 400,000. The action folded back to Moreno who also let his hand go. Koiev had one last player to get through and after a minute, he eventually laid his hand down as well.

Carreras Adds Chips on the Bubble

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

There was an all in for around 155,000 in middle position and Bernat Carreras woke up with a monster in the big blind. After making the call, the cards were tabled and the board was run out.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Bernat Carreras: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Carreras was looking to avoid the dreaded ace and managed to do so on the {7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts} run out. The field is now on the money bubble with just 40 players remaining. They will now be playing hand-for-hand until one more elimination occurs.

Hao Doubles Through Sole

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

The action folded to Inaki Sole in the small blind who just ripped all in. Liu Hao was in the big blind with the shorter stack of 348,000 and went deep into the tank with just two eliminations away from the money. The clock was called which prompted Hao to make the call.

Liu Hao: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Inaki Sole: {a-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Hao was in a dominating position and the flop of {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} left it that way. The {j-Hearts} on the turn and the {4-Clubs} on the river ensured a key double-up for Hao.

Toikkanen Rides a Rollercoaster

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante

Teemu Toikkanen opened to 40,000 in middle position and the player on his left shoved all in for around 500,000. Mario Sousa thought for nearly two minutes in the big blind but eventually folded. Toikkanen instantly called off his last 331,000 chips and the cards were on their backs.

Teemu Toikkanen: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Opponent: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Toikkanen was looking strong for a double up but the flop of {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} gave his opponent the lead with a set of tens. However, the {a-Diamonds} on the turn shot Toikkanen back to the lead and the {k-Hearts} on the river provided no further drama.

Mantovani Bows Out Short of the Money

Level 20 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Alexandre Mantovani
Alexandre Mantovani

Alexandre Mantovani raised it up from the hijack and Soraya Estrada called on the button. The flop came {k-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and Mantovani continued with a bet of 26,000. Estrada called and the {3-Diamonds} landed on the turn.

Mantovani fired out another bet of 65,000 and Estrada still called as the {k-Hearts} paired the board on the river. Mantovani checked this time and Estrada moved all in. Mantovani quickly called off his stack of around 140,000 and table {k-Spades}{6-Spades}. However, his kicker was lacking as Estrada showed {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} to eliminate Mantovani.

With Josh Manley also being recently eliminated, Ian Simpson is now the lone 888poker team member still in the field as the money bubble quickly approaches.
