Four Quick Exits

We blinked and missed it, but the last ten minutes has seen four eliminations from the 2012 ANZPT Queenstown Snowfest Main Event. Seang-hai Ching was the short stack at his table and was unable to run it up, while ANZPT regular, Gary Retallick, was in the same boat and couldn't cling to his tournament life. The other players sent packing were Yvo Molin and Justin Huege de Serville.

Wonson Crippled by Westmorland

David Wonson has just been crippled at the hands of Jordan Westmorland. We arrived at the table with a {k-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop out on the felt and with Wonson shoving all in for around 100,000. Westmorland made the at-risk call and the action was now on Matt Wakeman on the button. He said, "i really should think about this," before eventually folding.

Wonson: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Westmorland: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}

Westmorland was in front and it stayed that way as the dealer flipped over a {4-Diamonds} on the turn and a {10-Diamonds} on the river.

Big Chop for Wakeman and Zhao

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

When we arrived at Matt Wakeman's table, he was involved in a hand with David Zhao on the turn of a {2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} board. There was more than 30,000 in the pot at this point and Wakeman bet 12,100. David Zhao made the call and the dealer turned over a {4-Clubs} on the river. Wakeman didn't take long to bet here, leading out for 27,700. Zhao made a quick call and watched Wakeman turn over {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Zhao scooped his bet back up and tabled {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for a chopped pot.

Zalac Vs. Zhao

Ivan Zalac opened the button with a raise to 6,500 and David Zhao made the call in the big blind to see a flop of {6-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Zhao checked to Zalac who bet 8,000. Zhao took a moment before check-raising to 17,300 with Zalac instantly calling.

The turn brought the {8-Spades} and Zhou bet a hefty 30,600. Again Zalac instantly verbalized a call as the {3-Clubs} completed the board on the river. Zhou slowed down and checked as Zalac stood to his feet and immediately declared himself all in with great gusto. His stack was around 150,000, but after some thought, Zhao decided to give it up.

Ferg No More

Fergus Spary, who is known around town for owning own of the most popular restaurants in town, was the last Queenstown local in the tournament. We say "was" because he has now been eliminated.

Spary was under the gun when he shoved his short stack all in for around 30,000. David Evans was in the cutoff when he shoved his large stack in. The rest of the table was out of the way and the two players turned their hands over.

Spary: {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Evans: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The {3-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} board was no good for Spary as his cards went into the muck and he made his way from the tournament area.
