Day 1b Completed

Demlakian Leads Stacked Day 1b Snowfest Field

Level 6 : 200/400, 25 ante
Chip leader - Ken Demlakian
Chip leader - Ken Demlakian

Another day of exciting poker action has entered the record books here on Day 1b of the 2012 Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown Snowfest Main Event. At the end of the day it was Ken Demlakian who emerged as the chip leader, bagging up an impressive 70,750 in chips.

The day yet again began with some of the best players from around the region, but unfortunately not all of those could survive the night. Some of those who hit the rail throughout the day include include Jacky Wang, Jesse McKenzie, Alex Lynskey and last year’s ANZPT Queenstown sixth-place finisher, Tom Grigg.

Managing to do far better than the above players were the likes of James Honeybone, Ivan Zalac and Jonathan Dangio as they bagged up plenty of chips. Also surviving the night and still in contention are Billy Argyros, Matt Wakeman, Michael Fadersen, Ben McLean and Ricky Kroesen. A full list of the survivors can be seen below and in our dedicated chip count page.

With five players from Day 1a having huge chip stacks, at this point in time, Demlakian will start Day 2 with the sixth largest chip stack. After all was said and done, it was exactly 31 players who survived Day 1b. They will join the 27 survivors from Day 1a and the eventual survivors from tomorrow’s Day 1c on Day 2.

Be sure to return to PokerNews tomorrow as the third and final Day 1 flight kicks off at 12:30 PM local time. Until then, goodnight from the snowy wonderland that is Queenstown, New Zealand!

Richardson’s Boat Sinks on the River

Ben Richardson has had a rough end to the day after being forced to fold on the river after flopping a full house. The board read {8-}{4-}{8-}{Q-}{8-} with three players getting to that point after each paid 1,100 on the flop, before action was checked around on the turn.

Richardson was in the big blind holding pocket fours and he watched as the river was another eight to chew up his hand, with his deceptive full house now pretty much worthless. He checked, one player bet 2,200 and the other called, making it an easy fold for Richardson. One player showed pocket nines to take the pot with the caller tabling an ambitious pocket threes.

Richardson could only laugh as he ends a frustrating day with a stack of around 13,000. At this point, most of the tables started bagging up the chips.

Five More

Level 6 : 200/400, 25 ante

The tournament clock has been paused and the players have been informed that each table will play just five more hands. Stay tuned for a wrap of the day's action, along with the end-of-day chip counts.

Croc Snapping Up Some Chips

Michael Fadersen opened the action with a min-raise from under the gun and Billy Argyros flat-called on his left. The action was then on Matt Wakeman directly on Argyros's left and he three-bet to 2,375. Fadersen and the rest of the table got out of the way before it was back on Argyros. After just a few moments, Argyros four-bet to 7,050.

"How much you got, Billy?" Wakeman asked Argyros. "Twenty more?"

At this point Wakeman let out a loud sigh before saying to the silent Argyros, "You're normally so chatty, what's up?"

"God, i'm such a nit!" Wakeman said as he flicked his cards into the muck. The table began discussing the hand, with Wakeman saying, "I just don't think you are flatting and back-raising with ace-king."

Lynskey out of Luck

After losing that previous hand, Alex Lynskey looked down at {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and committed his last 6,500 chips with {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} to be racing for his tournament against the {a-Clubs}{q-Spades} of James Honeybone.

Again it was a cruel one for Lynskey as the first four cards were {k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} to keep him in the lead, but the {q-Hearts} on the river was not the lady Lynskey wanted to meet. Honeybone paired up to take the pot and eliminate a very unlucky Lynskey from the tournament.

Coolers Bro

We’ve witnessed another massive preflop clash between two big pairs where the small pair has caught a miraculous set to escape elimination.

This time it was Alex Lynskey and Ami Barer who went to war with Barer running his {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts} into Lynskey’s {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. No problem for Barer as he spiked his king on the board of {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{k-Spades}{8-Diamonds} to stay alive and double up to 30,000.
A disgusted Lynskey splashed his last chips on the felt, and looked down at just 6,500 in chips.

A Song About Rawkz

“I’m going to write a song about you Rawkz...it’s called ‘What a Life!’” said Michael Fadersen after losing a sizable pot to Liam O’Rourke in a preflop clash.

O’Rourke was all in for his last 9,000 or so with {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} but Fadersen had a monster {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The first four community cards were a safe {9-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, but the "ooooohs" were heard from the rail when the {10-Hearts} arrived on the river to give O’Rourke the two-outer river to stay alive.
