Six more levels are in the bag and the final day one flight of the 2012 Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown Snowfest Main Event has come to a close. At the end of the day, it was Nurlan Boobekov who held the chip lead over today’s 49-player field. Boobekov will join David Allan, from Day 1a, and Ken Demlakian from Day 1b, at the top of the chip counts come tomorrow’s Day 2.
Before we get into the overall field size and the all-important prize pool, let’s start with what happened during Day 1c. Some of the players who began the day with hopes and dreams, but fell short of surviving the night, include Jan Suchanek, Keith Walker, John Apostolidis, Matty Yates and Australia Poker Hall of Fame member, Lee Nelson.
Managing to do far better than the above player include Aaron Benton, Jarred Graham and Kristian Lunardi as they will be at the tables on Day 2. Leo Boxell, John Shin and Alicia Sale also survived Day 1c and are still in contention for the Queenstown Snowfest title.
All in all it was 29 players who survived the evening, with these players joining the 27 survivors from Day 1a and the 31 from Day 1b – meaning 87 players will all take to the felt come tomorrow.
Now, the important stuff. The overall field of 149 players has created a NZD$402,300 prize pool - the largest in the history of the ANZPT Queenstown. The top 15 players will earn at least a $7,050 min-cash, while the first-place prize is worth NZD$110,600. So that’s what the surviving players are all in the hunt for!
Tomorrow will play out in a somewhat unique way, with half the field partaking in three levels of action on Day 2a at 12:30 PM local time. The other half will play three levels on Day 2b at 4:00 PM. The survivors from both of these flights will then be combined at 7:30 PM and continue playing for another few levels. Both of these Day 2 table draws will be posted as soon as possible.
Be sure to join us again tomorrow, from 12:30 PM, as we continue our quest to crown a Queenstown Snowfest Champion. Until then, good night from New Zealand!

John Shin was the chip leader with just a few hands remaining, but that has now changed thanks to Nurlan Boobekov.
The hand in question began with Shin opening the pot to 800. Boobekov three-bet to 1,925 and with the rest of the table out of the way, Shin made the call.
On the flop, Shin opted to check-raise to 3,800 after Boobekov bet 1,700. Boobekov called and the dealer flipped over a on the turn. This time Shin led for 5,100 and Boobekov said, "You cover me right?" Boobekov then called and the dealer completed the board with a on the river.
Shin again led here, betting 8,000. Boobekov thought for a long time before going with the call. As the chips landed in the pot, Shin immediately slid his cards into the muck. Boobekov then showed his , with the ace-high call good for the win.
After this hand, Boobekov went on to scoop another couple of pots, solidifying his place up the top of the chip counts.

The tournament clock has been paused and the call for just four more hands has been made. Stay tuned for a wrap up of the day's action and the end-of-day chip counts.
Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Leo Boxell was down to just around 10,000 when he woke up with . Boxell managed to get his stack all in preflop against an opponent's . The flop gave him a bit of a sweat, but the turn and the river were safe and Boxell raked in the double.

Stewart Ballard final tabled the ANZPT Sydney event back in March, and since then we’ve seen him pop up around the local circuit. Ballard is part of today’s field here in Queenstown, although he was nearly sent to the rail when his pocket aces almost backfired on him.
We’re not sure if there was a preflop raise, but we suspect it might have been a limped pot that let Yvo Molin see a cheap flop of from the big blind.
Action checked to Ballard who moved all in for 7,850 with his but Molin snap-called with for a flopped two pair.
Ballard was looking for an ace, a jack or a running pair on board, and it was the latter that was delivered as the turn and river gave him a running two pair to stay alive!
Ballard doubles up to 19,000 with things going south for Molin in the last level of the day as he slips to 30,000.

Aaron Benton opened the action from the button with a raise to 1,000. Yvo Molin was in the small blind and he put in a three-bet to 2,800. Benton quickly called and they saw a flop of .
Molin tapped the table and Benton tossed out a bet of 3,100. Molin insta-called as the hit the turn. Molin checked again and Benton released a second shell with a bet of 3,700. Again Molin wasted no time in matching the bet.
The pot was already healthy when the fell on the river and action checked to Benton. He cut down 8,800 and plonked them forwards. Molin gave it some thought this time but decided to look him up.
Benton opened for a turned set which had spiked a perfect two-outer to get past Molin who flashed the .
Molin slips to 40,000 with the 2009 APPT Sydney champion now looking dangerous with a stack of 50,000.

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang was under the gun when he opened up the pot to 800. A flurry of cards went into the muck from around the table and it was on Craig Blight in the small blind. He made the call, and with the big blind out of the way, the dealer turned over a flop.
Blight opted to check-call a bet of 900 here and then both players checked the turn. A on the river and it would be another couple of checks.
"Ace!" said Blight as he tabled . That was enough to send Huang's cards into the muck as Blight raked in the pot.
