O'Rourke Surges Past Two Million

Liam O'Rourke is agin sitting behind the largest stack in the room. We caught the caught the action from the river with around 350,000 already in the pot and a board showing {5-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} .

Alec Smith was O'Rourke's opponent and he would check to O'Rourke who bet 200,000. Smith went into the tank and eventually made the call. O'Rourke turned over his {7-Clubs} {6-Clubs} for a flopped straight and a turned higher straight to take down the big pot.

Unfortunately for Mishel Anunu it is all over here at the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event. It all started when Martin Rowe opened the pot to 50,000. Anunu then shoved all in for around 200,000 and Rowe made the call.

Anunu: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}

Anunu would need some help that would never come as the board ran out {7-Clubs} {10-Spades} {a-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} . Anunu goes home in 13th place, picking up $9,220 for his effort.

As we had a look at Rowe's chip count he turned to us and said, "It's the same hand i won the APPT event with. Ace of clubs, queen of hearts. How could i fold?!"

Rowe is of course referring to his 2008 APPT Sydney Main Event win where he took down a very impressive $1,000,000.

Steve Lindeblad is no longer involved in this tournament, with his elimination coming at the hands of the gargantuan stack of Anthony Aston. Lindeblad moved his stack all in preflop holding {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs} and Aston made the call with {k-Clubs} {k-Spades} .

When the board ran out {9-Hearts} {9-Spades} {6-Spades} {5-Spades} {j-Diamonds} , it was all over for Lindeblad in 14th place. Aston's stack just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

The last lady standing was Kristina Griffiths, and with her elimination in 15th place, there are only fellas left in the field. It started when Liam O'Rourke opened the pot to 44,000 from the hijack. Griffiths then shoved all in for 107,000 in the cutoff and O'Rourke made the call.

Sam Capra was in middle position when he shoved all in for 240,000. Anthony Aston snap-called in the small blind and Capra said, "Well, im in trouble here."

He wasn't in too bad shape though as Capra's {a-Spades} {k-Diamonds} would be coming up against Aston's {q-Clubs} {q-Diamonds} . The board ran out {9-Spades} {10-Spades} {8-Clubs} {2-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} , with no help for Capra as he heads out the door in 16th place for a $7,837 score.

Speidel In The Mix Again

Oliver Speidel has been getting active at his table, except this time his chips were going in the opposite direction than his stack.

We came to the table on the river with a board showing {q-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {q-Clubs} {8-Spades} {a-Hearts} and Speidel first to act against Gordon Huntly. Speidel led for 185,000 and Huntly shipped it all in. When Speidel found out that Huntly had an extra 208,000, he made the call.

Huntly tabled his {8-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} , his turned full house enough to send Speidel's cards into the muck.

Oliver Speidel and Nicholas Heather have just rumbled in a very big pot that saw seemingly endless bets flying onto the felt.

The two players took to a flop showing {10-Clubs} {a-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} , where Heather led for 35,000. Speidel then popped it to 75,000 and it was back on Heather, who made it 135,000. Back to Speidel and he made it 200,000. Back on Heather and it was another min-click to 285,000. Speidel then made it 385,000 - enough to send Heather's cards into the muck.

Aston Crushing; Anunu Down

Anthony Aston has just taken down one of the biggest pots of the tournament. We came to the table with a flop showing {a-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} and Aston was involved in the hand with three other players. Mishel Anunu was first to act and he bet 50,000. Aston was next to act and popped it to 125,000. The other two players got out of the way and Anunu made the call.

Turn: {3-Spades}

On the turn, Anunu checked and Aston shoved all in for 527,000. Anunu thought for quite some time before making the call.

Aston: {a-Diamonds} {9-Spades}

If Aston faded a heart he would have one of the biggest stacks in the room.

Tobin Ryall has had a great run since finishing up as the Day 1a chipleader at the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event. That run has come to an end though as Mishel Anunu has dealt the fatal blow to his tournament life.

Ryall got his stack all-in preflop holding {q-Diamonds} {q-Clubs} and happened to run into Anunu's {k-Diamonds} {k-Clubs} . When the board ran out {8-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {4-Spades} , it was all over for Ryall in 17th place.
