"You already final tabled an Aussie Millions. Leave some for the rest of us!" said Tom Grigg at the end of the following hand.
It all started when Sam Capra (the man who Grigg is talking about) opened it from under the gun. The player on the button made the call and it was on the big blind player who put in a three-bet. The other two players made the call and the flop was dealt.
On the flop, it was checked to the player on the button who made it 2,100. One player got out of the way while Capra would make the call to see the hit the turn. Both players checked on the turn and the would complete the board on the river.
On the river Capra led for 6,000 and then snap-called when his opponent moved all in. Capra turned over his for a flopped set of kings, while his opponent's rivered set of fours would be sent into the muck.
As Capra raked in his new chips, this is when Grigg made his comment from the start of the post. Capra simply replied with a laugh and a, "You've had it pretty good as well.
When we passed Tony Hachem's table we noticed that he was out of his seat and talking to a girl. It wasn't just any girl though, it was prominent poker pro Maria Ho.
Apparently Ho will be playing in tomorrow's Day 1 flight.
We had another walk through the Oasis Room and noticed Tom Wing has been eliminated from the tournament. Apparently he was unlucky when he got plenty of chips in with against and then couldn't get any luck when he got all his chips in with a massive draw. And with that, it's back to Melbourne for the young player.
As you very well know, this ANZPT Sydney event is the first stop on the fourth season of the popular tour. But what happened in season three, you may ask?
A total of 1,746 players took part in Season III of the ANZPT, creating a total prize pool of AUD$3,692,040.
During that time, numerous stars arose including Octavian Voegele, who won $148,900 after defeating 253 players at the ANZPT Adelaide. Likewise, Grant Levy conquered a field of 220 players at ANZPT Perth to win a $131,500 prize.
Finally, how can we forget Lee Nelson’s win at the ANZPT Melbourne for $156,550, giving him an ANZPT title to go along with his 2006 Aussie Millions Poker Championship crown.
All in all, season three was a very memorable one and hopefully this season is shaping up to be just the same.
When we came to Billy Argyros' table there was a board showing and Argyros was in a hand with two opponents. One of those opponents was Sam Khouiss and it would be him who would get into the most trouble.
It was Argyros who was first to act and he would check, along with the other player in the hand. Khouiss then bet 3,100 and Argyros popped it to 11,000. The other player got out of the way and Khouiss moved all in for a small portion more. Argyos threw in the call and the two players turned their hands over.
Argyros:
Khouiss:
It was Argyros with a flush versus Khouiss' set and when there was no three or paired board for Khouiss, it was all over for the Australian veteran poker player.
When we went to Jonathan Karamalikis' table there was board spread and David Steicke's stack was getting pushed in the direction of Karamalikis.
Karamalikis held for a flush, while Steicke held for a pair of eights. Apparently all of Steicke's chips went in the middle on the flop. Unfortunate loss for Steicke, while Karamalikis now sits behind one of the largest stack in the room.
