Drewe Takes One

When two players limped from early position, the rest of the table would get out of the way before Lee Nelson put in the extra chips in the small blind and Martin Drewe tapped the table from the big blind.

Flop: {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

On the flop, Drewe would confidently lead for 1,800. It didn't take long for cards to fly into the muck from all directions of the table as Drewe took down the small pot.

Nguyen Runs Into Nuts

Minh Nguyen held {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} in the small blind when a late position player would shove all in for around 8,000. Nguyen looked towards the player's stack in the big blind and then opted to shove his large stack in the middle. The big blind player looked down at his cards and flicked them into the muck as the two players would turn their hands over.

Nguyen's opponent tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, well ahead of Nguyen's hand. The board ran out {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and it was a nice double-up for the player, while Nguyen takes a small hit to his stack.

Jacks For Moose

When we came to Raemin Alexander's table there was an open to 1,500 from a player in middle position. Alexander was on the button and he made the call, along with the player in the small blind.

Flop: {7-Hearts}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts}

The two players checked to Alexander who bet 2,900. The two players didn't want to get involved as four cards went into the muck.

At this point Alexander casually flicked his {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts} onto the felt and raked in his chips.

Final Level

Level 8 : 400/800, 75 ante

The final level of the night has just commenced. Approximately 147 players currently remain in the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event. Lets see how many of those remain by the time the clock has stopped and the bags are out.

Ivan Flops It

Level 8 : 400/800, 75 ante

"You can't fold that, it's only 4,300!" said Mike Ivan at the end of a recent hand.

There was a board showing {7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds} at this stage and around 10,000 in the pot already. Ivan shoved for his last 4,300 and his opponent was in the tank. As Ivan said, the player ended up folding.

When Ivan said what you read above, he tabled {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, for a flopped full house. Maybe he didn't get as much value as he hoped, but with that pot, Ivan is still alive and well.

International Oasis

The two prominent international players in the field have spent the majority of their tournament down in the Oasis Room. Team PokerStars Pro Angel Guillen has had a much quieter last couple of levels than when he started, but is still hanging in there. Ho hasn't seemed to gain any momentum yet, but there is still plenty of time.

Truong The Master

Readers may remember Tam Truong from having built a massive stack on the first day of the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event. Well its a little bit of deja vu here as Truong is looking like he could end the night as the chip leader here at the 2012 ANZPT Sydney Main Event.

A recent hand saw a player move all in for around 20,000. Truong was directly on the player's left when he instantly re-shoved for his massive stack. The rest of the table got out of the way and the two players turned their hands over.

Truong: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{9-Spades}

It was looking like Truong was about to get richer and when the board ran out {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{a-Spades}, it was another nice pot for Truong. As our reporter wrote down the details of the hand, one of the players said, "make sure you write down that players have just been giving this guy chips."
