Nice One for Franklin

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Colin Franklin has just taken down a sizable pot against Michael Ip. We arrived at the action on the river of a {9-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} board with Ip facing a bet of 11,900 from Franklin. Ip was deep in the tank and took his time before eventually opting to go with the call.

Franklin flipped over his {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} at showdown, which would be enough to send Ip’s {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} into the muck. Franklin is now one of the bigger stacks in the room while Ip has fallen below average.

Quads Will Do for Lim

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

One of the players on Table 6 just came over to tell us here at the media desk about a massive hand that just played out to see David Lim as the new chip leader in the room. Apparently Lim held {q-}{q-} and flopped quads against a player who held {a-}{a-}. The river was an {a-}, but it’s presence only teased the player with the pocket rockets as Lim’s quads were good enough to see him skyrocket to approximately 175,000 in chips.

Jia Sends Byrns Home

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Lukas Byrns didn’t have a good start to the day and it never really improved as he has now been eliminated at the hands of Xiao Jia.

We arrived at the action on the {6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop, with well over 20,000 already in the middle and Byrns moving all in for 11,800. Jia had Byrns covered and made the call.

It was the {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} of Byrns against the {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} of Jia.

The turn was a {7-Hearts} and the river a {k-Hearts}, meaning Jia’s bigger over cards were good enough to win the pot and send Byrns to the rail.

Levy No Where to be Found

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

The ever-chatty Daniel Levy is no longer in his seat. In fact, Dean Blatt has now replaced Levy in that seat on Table 4. Considering Levy can’t be spotted, or more aptly, can’t be heard, anywhere in the room, it is safe to assume he has been one of the many casualties so far on Day 2 of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event.

Chang Re Building

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

We recently arrived to find Cole Swannack facing a raise on a {8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop after he had led out for 9,200. Eric Chang was the player who raised and he had made it 20,000 to go. Anesone Bragouits was also involved in the pot and folded from the button. Back on Swannack and he tanked for quite some time before opting to let it go.

Despite winning this hand, Chang is still sitting behind a stack which is much smaller than the big stack he started the day with.

Break Time Over

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

The players are back from their break and the cards are back in the air on Day 2 of the ANZPT Auckland Main Event.

The Big Stacks

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

These are some of the players who have amassed the big stacks with around 70 players still remaining.

As you can see, David Lim is well and truly the chip leader with the only stack in excess of 200,000 in chips.

One More Down

Level 10 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

The latest player to hit the rail was Toebbe Johannes.

He was all in preflop holding {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} against {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and wasn’t able to improve on a {k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} board.

There are now approximately 66 players remaining.
