We are still awaiting final confirmation, but it looks like tonight has seen 99 players take to the felt for Day 1a of ANZPT Perth Main Event.
That's a great number and is up 14 on last year's equivalent Day 1 flight.
Now we just have to wait and see how many players partake in tomorrow's second and final Day 1 flight.
It's been a great start for Didier Guerin, not only here on Day 1a of the ANZPT Perth Main Event, but also after a recent runner-up finish in the $1,100 Six-Max side event earlier this evening.
Guerin recently told us how he managed to move his stack over 60,000 not long after he sat at the tables.
Apparently Guerin opened to 500 and got called in two spots, including the small blind.
On the ![]()

flop, It was checked to Guerin who bet 1,400. The next player to act popped it to 4,000 and the small blind flat-called. Guerin then made it 11,000 to go, having started the hand with 22,000. The previous agressor called, while the small blind moved all in for a little less than Guerin's stack. Guerin then moved all in and the next player called, putting Guerin at risk.
Guerin had ![]()
for the nut straight and was up against ![]()
for two pair and ![]()
for top pair, the nut flush draw, and gut-shot Broadway draw.
Guerin managed to fade the turn and river and tripled his stack.
Perth local, WSOP bracelet winner Aaron Lim, has just found a double up.
Lim was down to around 5,000 when he got his stack in with ![]()
on a jack-high flop. His lone unlucky opponent called with ![]()
and with a ![]()

Edison Nguyen has been quite short stacked for much of the early stages of the day, but he recently managed to pick up some much needed chips when he shoved all in against one opponent on the river of a ![]()

board. Nguyen's opponent opted to fold and Nguyen scooped the pot.
Nguyen still needs to do some work if he's going to add an ANZPT Perth title to his collection which includes the Melbourne title.
The players are back from their break and cards are back in the air.
The antes have now kicked in and registration is closed.
We will have confirmation of today's number as soon as possible.

The players have been sent on their first 10-minute break of Day 1a.
The ANZPT Perth Main Event will continue shortly so be sure to return soon!
Affable local Tony Targlia is already sitting behind a stack of around 37,000.
We didn't catch the hand that sent Tartaglia's stack skyrocketing, but we asked him what happened and he responded thusly:
"I got it in good and he didn't catch a set," Tartaglia quipped.
Upon further elaboration, we found out Tartaglia got his stack in with ![]()
against ![]()
to scoop the massive pot.
