Sabat Takes Down Pot Worth Close to One Million

Edward Sabat is gaining momentum.
Edward Sabat is gaining momentum.
Edward Sabat has been busy, busy, busy since we came back from dinner. Mikael Rosen raised to 75,000 preflop and was called only by Sabat from the small blind. The flop was a very dry {3-Hearts} {K-Spades} {4-Diamonds}. Sabat checked it over to Rosen, who bet 110,000. Sabat made the call.

On the turn {6-Hearts}, Sabat checked again. Rosen went into the tank for over a minute before finally settling on a bet of 250,000. Sabat took less time before he made the call. The river was the {Q-Diamonds}, which both players checked. Sabat opened first, showing {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds}. That was a winner when Rosen mucked.

An Unorthodox Strategy for the Chuck Truck

Charles Chua came by media row just before play resumed and said that he had consumed half a bottle of whiskey at dinner to drown his sorrows from some beats that he took leading up to the last break. We thought he might be taking the piss but he had a bottle of whiskey on a service table near his seat and took several liberal swigs from it during the first few hands of post-dinner play.

Someone else must have thought it was not a good idea for Chua to be consuming so much booze while still alive in the tournament. During the recent all-in confrontation between Kuok Wai Will Cheong and Edward Sabat, the whiskey bottle disappeared from the service table.

Kuok Wai Will Cheong Eliminated in 6th Place ($56,730)

Edward Sabat opened with a raise to 80,000 before Kuok Wai Will Cheong moved all in over the top. Sabat insta-called against the short stack.

Sabat: {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Cheong: {K-Spades}{9-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{J-Spades}{5-Hearts}{A-Spades} giving the pot to Sabat and ending the run of our last Macau player, Kuok Wai Will Cheong, in 6th place for $56,730.

Sabat Takes One To Dinner

Diwei Huang raised to 60,000 from the button before Edward Sabat popped it up to 225,000 from the big blind. Huang folded, flashing an ace as Sabat matched that with his own ace.

Sabat has certainly been the most unpredictable player at the table and now that he has some chips to play with we can expect him to continue to push the action after dinner.

Hungry?

With the dinner break approaching, play has slowed considerably. A raise before the flop has been enough to take the last several pots. We've also had a few limped pots that were taken down with a single bet on the flop.

Tian Chen Eliminated in 7th Place ($42,143)

The action folded to Edward Sabat in the small blind who moved all in to put maximum pressure on the short-stacked Tian Chen in the big blind. Chen looked down at his cards and snap-called.

Sabat: {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}
Chen: {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}

The flop came {A-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{K-Hearts} giving Chen top two pair and he looked set for a double-up. However the {2-Spades} on the turn and a {J-Spades} on the river gave Sabat a running flush to the roars of his entourage, as Chen heads to the rail in unfortunate circumstances in seventh place for $42,143.

Sabat Straightens Out at Chua's Expense

Edward Sabat doubles up
Edward Sabat doubles up
Things are quickly going south for Charles Chua. Edward Sabat raised the minimum, to 40,000, from under the gun and was called only by Chua. Chua quickly checked a flop of {6-Hearts} {10-Spades} {K-Spades} to Sabat, who bet about half his stack, 101,000. Chua raised all in and Sabat, who had committed himself to the hand with his bet, called.

Chua: {10-Clubs} {6-Clubs}
Sabat: {Q-Spades} {J-Hearts}

Chua's two pair was in the lead, as Sabat committed himself to the hand with a naked straight draw. He missed the turn {8-Diamonds}. With drama at its peak in the TV table area, the dealer burned and turned the {9-Hearts} to fill Sabat's straight. He went running over to some friends on the rail as the card came down, smashing a monitor on one of the television cameras in the process.
