You Make the Call

The floor staff here at the Grand Waldo just had their first major test of the tournament. A player raised from under the gun before the button player reraised all in. When action folded back to the under-the-gun player, he called the allin.

The button tabled {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}, bringing a snort of disgust from the under-the-gun player before he opened {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts}. He angrily slammed his cards down to the felt, causing one of them to pop up in the air and land face down in the muck.

The button suggested that his opponent's hand should be declared dead and the pot should be awarded to him without a board. Naturally, the under-the-gun player disagreed. A floor was called over, who listened to the story, retrieved the errant king from the muck and ruled that the under-the-gun player's hand was live.

It didn't matter; the board ran out queen-high to allow the button to win the pot.

Tsanguine

Elton Tsang made a great call to eliminate another player from today's field. On a board of {9-Clubs} {J-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, Tsang opened for 1,500 after his opponent checked. He was put to the test when his opponent check-raised all in for 5,000. Tsang tanked for about a minute before making the call and tabling {K-Spades} {J-Clubs} for middle pair and a gutshot straight draw. He made the correct decision - his opponent opened {4-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}. The turn and river were both bricks, {2-Spades} {6-Diamonds}.

Tsang now has about 23,000.

Sirens Out

Van Marcus Eliminated
Van Marcus Eliminated
On a flop of {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades} Johnny Chan and Van Marcus committed all of their chips into the middle.

Chan had flopped top two pair with his {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts} but would have to dodge some cards as Marcus flipped {9-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for an open-ended straight draw.

The turn was the {2-Clubs} giving Marcus additional flush outs, but the {8-Spades} on the river gave Chan a full house, sending Van "Sirens" Marcus back to the cash games.

Waterman Surfaces

As the players continue to consolidate, new chip leaders start to emerge from the depths. Dennis Waterman should know -- he's one of those players. Waterman recently eliminated a player on a board of {3-Spades} {3-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {A-Spades} {7-Spades}. Waterman's bet from the cutoff was raised all in by his opponent. Waterman made a quick call and tabled {A-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} for two pair, better than the two pair his opponent made holding {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}.

Waterman is now near the top of the leader board with about 46,000 in chips.

Grigorian Rivers Flush

On a board of {2-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, Chad Brown led out for 1,500 from the big blind with both Chris Grigorian and Michael Pedley calling in position.

The river was the {5-Clubs} and Brown fired 2,000. Again both players called. Grigorian was the first to show his holding, flipping over {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush. Brown mucked and Pedley let off a frustrated groan as he also mucked his cards.

Sabat Gets Two-Outered

Edward Sabat described his day as "a roller coaster" to his table after doubling up a short stack. Sabat had flopped two pair with {A-Clubs} {10-Spades} on a board of {10-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {A-Spades}, but his opponent turned trips when the turn came {4-Hearts}. The rest of the chips went in on the {5-Diamonds} river, where Sabat's opponent open tabled {4-Spades} {6-Spades} and showed him the bad news.

After the hand, Sabat moved down to 22,000 chips.

Max Out

Max Veenhuyzen
Max Veenhuyzen
After a raise from early position and a call on the button in front of him, Max Veenhuyzen squeezed from the big blind for his last 6,000 chips. The early position player made a reluctant call as the button folded {A-?}{Q-?}.

Veenhuyzen was thrilled to see that fold as he found his {A-?}{5-?} in great shape against his opponent's {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. However, he wasn't so happy to see two hearts on the flop and another on the turn to give his opponent a flush; ending the day for Veenhuyzen.

El Doble for Rousso

Vanessa Rousso has been treading water for most of the day, but finally hit a nice hand. Holding {K-Spades} {8-Spades}, she was all in against one opponent when the board came {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {8-Hearts}. Her opponent only bottom pair, {6-Hearts} {7-Hearts}, and although he improved to two pair when the turn came {6-Diamonds}, Rousso's hand held up on the {Q-Diamonds} river. She now has about 18,000 chips.
