The Numbers

It's been made official that there are 135 entries into day 1a. Of those about ten are not here, probably online seat only qualifiers who couldn't make it to the tournament for one reason or another.

The no-show stacks have been taken out of the tournament, however their buy-in will stay in the prize pool to create a nice little overlay for players.

More Chips For Emad

In a battle of the blinds Emad Tahtouh was in the middle of the action once again as he fired 3,500 on a board of {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Hearts}. His opponent the put in the old min-check-raise to 7,000.

"Argh, I can't raise, so I guess I have to call," sighed Tahtouh.

His opponent tabled {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for the rivered flush.

"Thank god!" said Tahtouh as he revealed {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the bigger flush. "He showed the {5-Hearts} first and then I thought I was screwed unless he had the {4-Hearts} or {3-Hearts} or was doing some funky min-raise bluff," Tahtouh added as his active day continues to add to his chip stack as he's now over 35,000 chips.

Lin Holding The Aces?

In a re-raised pot we approached the table on a flop of {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds} with local poker celebrity Brooke Howard-Smith in the tank after Celina Lin had moved all of her chips into the middle.

Smith made a reluctant fold, saying that he folded pocket kings, putting Lin solely on pocket aces.

"If you just call the flop then you get it all!" said Smith.

"Well, I didn't know you'd fold kings!" defended Lin as she moves up over 25,000 with Smith back to around 11,000.

Not Such A Paradise

Eden Smith takes a massive beat
Eden Smith takes a massive beat
After making a great start to the day, things have gone south for Eden Smith.

All the chips went in on a flop {3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} with Smith's {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} in control against the {A-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} of Arnuad Bulle.

Bulle looked set to hit the rail after the turn {q-Hearts}, but the {a-Clubs} spiked the river to save him.

Bulle moves through to 49,500 and Eden is left to lament what would have been a massive chip lead. He has only 9,000 chips.

Dodds Talks It Up

Preflop, a player in middle position opened to 1,650 and Joel Dodds made the call from late position.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} and the opponent fired 725, which Dodds called.

The turn brought the {6-Spades} and the opponent bet 2,1000 which Dodds raised to 5,600. The opponent called moving to the {a-Clubs} river.

On the river the opponent gave a frustrated check, and Dodds moved all in.

While pondering his decision the opponent probed, "How did you get into this tournament".

"I spent a shitload on sats, and then gave up and bought in," was the reply from the Dodds.

The opponent thought some more. "I'm not showing this one either," teased Dodds, "and if you think i'm raising Ace-Eight you're wrong," he added.

In the end the opponent folded and looked generally upset.

"This is why I love live poker, people take it so seriously," said Dodds as he raked in the pot. He has 23,000 chips.

Scott and Tahtouh Continue To Tango

With a raise to 700 in front of them, both Stewart Scott and Emad Tahtouh made the call to see a {6-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop. Action checked around and the {8-Diamonds} hit the turn.

Again play checked to Tahtouh who fired 1,200 with just Scott making the call.

Scott checked in the dark before the {K-Hearts} fell on the river.

"Check in the dark on the river? And now you've hit your money card! I check. Show me ace-king!" exclaimed Tahtouh.

"Nup. A pair and you win," replied Scott.

Tahtouh had a pair, just, as his {4-Clubs}{6-Clubs} was good enough to collect the pot.

"I thought you had nothing, so I thought a check in the dark would slow you down!" chuckled Scott as these two high-profile players continue to splash around.

Neilson Avoids Disaster

Daniel Neilson

On a flop of {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs} James Ciurlionis led the betting for 625 before Daniel Neilson popped it up to 1,900. Ciurlionis decided to just flat call as the {q-Clubs} was a scary looking turn card resulting in checks by both players.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and Ciurlionis fired 950 with Neilson making the call.

Ciurlionis tabled {7-Spades}{6-Hearts} for a flopped straight that held on, as Neilson mucked {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a flopped set!

"You re-raise the flop, I'm all in," quipped a relieved Neilson, as he still hangs on to 14,000 in chips and avoids being felted.
