Waterman Beats Out "Imallrin"

James "Imallrin" Ciurlioniss
James "Imallrin" Ciurlioniss
Dennis Waterman has kept his chip stack going the right way after taking down a pot against James 'imallrin' Ciurlioniss on the river.

Preflop, Ciurlioniss opened to 4,200 and Waterman and another player called from the big blind.

They took a {Q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{4-Spades} flop and both the other players checked to Ciurlioniss who fired out 8,000 on the flop. Waterman made the call, but the big blind folded to make it heads up to the {10-Diamonds} turn.

On the turn Ciurlioniss bet 16,000 and after some though Waterman made the call. Ciurlioniss gave up on the river {6-Spades} checking to Waterman who bet 28,000. Ciurlioniss folded.

Waterman is up to 115,000, Ciurlioniss is down to 70,000.

Hachem Crashes With Set Over Set

Tony Hachem bites the dust
Tony Hachem bites the dust
With a raise to 3,800 in front of him, PokerStars Team Australia Pro Tony Hachem announced he was all in for 15,500 in total.

He was called by Chris Tau and the original raisor as Hachem called for a triple up.

The flop fell {5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Spades} and with Hachem all in, play checked to Tau who moved all in to force the third player from the pot.

Hachem then proudly flipped {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a set, but was in shock when Tau opened up {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}.

Hachem needed a one-outer, or running flush or straight cards to survive, but it wasn't to be on the {2-Hearts} turn and {3-Spades} river.

"Off to the showers..." sighed Hachem as he heads to the rail as Tau is now up to 90,000.

Shinzaki Doubles

Shinzaki is summoning his inner samurai
Shinzaki is summoning his inner samurai
Michael Shinzaki has just doubled through Angie Fitzgerald to move up to 85,000.

Preflop Fitzgerald made it 5,000 and Shinzaki flat called out of the small blind.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Shinzaki checked to Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald picked up 10,000 chips in her hand and then added a 1,000 chip to bet 11,000. Shinzaki thought for a little while before moving all in over the top for around 38,000.

It was now Fitzgerald's turn in the tank and she eventually made the call tabling {A-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Upon seeing Shinzaki's {K-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} Fitzgerald called, "Come on two diamonds or an ace, no pressure dealer".

The dealer wouldn't oblige turning the {6-Clubs} and putting the {6-Diamonds} out on the river.

Shinzaki moves through to 85,000. Fitzgerald was down to 3,800 and eliminated a few short hands later.

The Gates Are Closed

Garry Gates Eliminated
Garry Gates Eliminated
To all of our Garry Gates shoutbox railbirds, we have some bad news. Our fearless PokerNews Tournament Reporting leader is not giving up his day job, just yet, as his tournament dreams have disappeared in a series of unfortunate hands.

As described to us by the man himself, he first doubled up a short stack with {A-?}{10-?} against {A-?}{K-?}.

A few moments later there was a raise to 3,200 and Gates called on the button with {K-?}{Q-?}. Aaron Benton also called in the small blind and they went to the flop of {K-?}{7-?}{2-?}. Action checked to Gates who fired 6,000. Benton was the lone caller. The turn was a repeat {7-?} and this time Benton check-called for 8,000 and an {A-?} hit the river. Benton then immediately moved all in for 26,000. Gates considered a call, before the clock was called and he had to release. Benton flashed {A-?}{7-?} for a full house.

The final blow came when Gates called a raise to 4,000 holding {A-?}{Q-?} and took a flop of {Q-?}{J-?}{2-?}. The preflop aggressor made it 11,000 and Gates shipped for 34,000, only to find that he'd run into a set of jacks. The board bricked out and Gates was eliminated.

Our final ten tables have now all been balanced with eight players apiece as we're down to our final 80.

Play will continue as eight-handed for the remainder of the tournament.

Waican Making A Fist Of It

New Caledonia's Helmut Waicane continues to charge up the leaderboard by eliminating a shorter-stacked player.

The opponent pushed all in from early position and Waicane re-pushed to isolate. Waicane tabled {10-Clubs}{10-Spades} to be in a good position against his opponent's {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}.

The board ran out {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{3-Diamonds} to add to Waicane's stack.

He moves up to about 145,000.

Graeme Runs Out Of Putt

Caching the action on the turn on a board of {6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}, Graeme Putt had tossed out two orange 5000-denomination chips before his opponent splashed all in. Putt beat him into the pot with {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for top pair as his opponent revealed {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for a pair and straight draw.

Putt slammed the table in disgust as the {8-Spades} fell to complete his opponent's straight and send "Kiwi G" to the rail.

Shinzaki Shows Some Grunt

Michael Shinzaki and Grant Levy
Michael Shinzaki and Grant Levy
Grant Levy opened with a raise to 4,000 from early position and the action folded around to the ever-lively Michael Shinzaki who moved all in.

Levy asked for a count and it was enough to cover Levy's remaining 30,000-chip stack. Levy thought for a moment before open-folding pocket fives.

Michael Shinzaki then flashed the {A-Spades}{2-Hearts}, as he chips up to around 60,000.
