Day 1c Done and Dusted with Brkovic Leading

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante
Chip Leader Aleks Brkovic
Chip Leader Aleks Brkovic

Day 1c of the 2010 PokerStars.net APPT Sydney Grand Final has come and gone. This final starting day was the largest of the three with 146 players showing up to action. That's greater than the first two days combined and put the total number of players at 289 this year. Although that number is a bit down from the 396 that played last year, there's still a whopping A$1,734,000 in prize money up for grabs. First place is worth A$459,510.

Plenty of big names were in action today, including Tony G, Tyron Krost, Roland de Wolfe and Jarred Graham. Team PokerStars Pros Chris Moneymaker, Joe Hachem, Tony Hachem and Lee Nelson also played today. Nelson and Joe Hachem were the only two Team PokerStars Pros to move on to Day 2 from Day 1c. Some of the other notables who failed to make it out of the day were James Obst, Jeff Lisandro, John Caridad, Binh Nguyen and Ben Delaney.

Leading the way after this third and final starting day is Aleks Brkovic, who bagged up 129,100 in chips. He won't be the chip leader coming into Day 2 though, as that belongs to Daniel Neilson who bagged up 164,100 after Day 1b.

All three combined fields will join up tomorrow for action that begins at 12:30 p.m. local time. We'll see you right back here at PokerNews tomorrow for all of the action.

Both Nguyen and Caridad Busted by Saghabi

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante
Binh Nguyen one of the casualties on this hand
Binh Nguyen one of the casualties on this hand

Action folded over to John Caridad in middle position and he moved all in for 13,400. David Saghabi, who has been extremely active and talkative all day long, made the call from the small blind. Binh Nguyen, who won APPT Manilla in March of 2010 and took second in the 2009 LA Poker Classic WPT event, reraised all in from the big blind for 27,100. Again, Saghabi made the call.

Caridad held the {4-Hearts}{4-Spades} and was up against the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for Nguyen and the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for Saghabi. Caridad could win the main pot and triple up, while Nguyen and Saghabi had a side pot to go for as well.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and smacked Saghabi with the best hand. The turn was the {2-Hearts} and the river the {6-Spades}. Saghabi busted both Caridad and Nguyen, two powerful players in the event, and moved his stack to 120,000.

Edwards Exits

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante
Luke 'eddy' Edwards bites the dust
Luke 'eddy' Edwards bites the dust

Over on table twenty-five we found a battle between PokerStars.net Online Qualifiers Luke 'eddy' Edwards and Hugh 'jackovich' Cohen.

Edwards opened to 1,900 only to have Cohen three-bet next to act from the hijack to 5,200. Once the blinds passed, Edwards paused for a few moments before move all in for 26,950 with Cohen making the call.

Edwards: {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Cohen: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

The {9-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop gave Edwards a flushdraw to go along with his pair outs, but when the {9-Spades} and {6-Spades} landed on the turn and river, he was forced to exit as Cohen climbs to 70,000 in chips.

Portaro KO'd

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Bruno Portaro has just been sent to the rail when his {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} were outdrawn by his opponent's {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The final board read {8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{K-Spades} to see Portaro forced to the rail.

After a player raised to 2,550 from the hijack seat, Jeff Lisandro moved all in for 8,575 from the cutoff seat. The player on the button reraised all in for 24,750 and everyone folded, including the original preflop raiser.

Lisandro was all in and at risk with the {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}. His opponent woke up to a monster though, with the {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. The board ran out {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Lisandro was finished.

Krost to 100k

Level 7 : 400/800, 75 ante

Two players shipped all in preflop - one of which was Aussie Millions Champion Tyron Krost - to force Ali Khalil to fold his pocket nines.

Krost: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

Having his opponent covered, Krost was relieved to see the {7-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} board spread to ensure he was pushed the pot as he soars to the 100,000 mark.
