Day 2 Completed

Mizzi Leads At End Of ACOP Day 2

Level 12 : 900/1,800, 200 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi will take the chip lead into Day 3 of the ACOP Main Event here in Macau having bagged up an impressive 439,900. Mizzi finished a long way ahead of second place Terry Gonzaga who bagged up 309,700. Rounding out the top three is Gabriel Le Jossec with 301,800.

With five players buying in at the start of the day the final number of entrants tallied at 291 with 179 players taking their seats at the start of Day 2. With registration closed the Tournament Director confirmed the record field had generated a total prize pool of HK$27,092,100 easily surpassing the guarantee and proof of the enduring and growing popularity of this event.

The eventual winner will take home a very impressive HK$6,300,000 (US$812,672). With 31 places paid a min-cash is worth HK$202,000.

It was in the second level of the day that Mizzi would double through Sam Cohen during a preflop all in. Cohen tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} only to find she had run into the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} of Mizzi. An overkill board of {6-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{7-Spades} saw Mizzi grab the lead and he never really looked like relinquishing it. Mizzi had actually been at risk of elimination on Day 1 at the hands of Cohen and that proved to be the turning point for him.

Gonzaga had his own slice of luck today when he was involved in a three-way all in before the flop in the first level of play holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. He was up against {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} and {5-Spades}{5-Clubs} but was saved as the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{2-Spades}.

Other notables who will be returning tomorrow include reigning champion Sunny Jung (273,200), Michael Tureniec (239,700), Joseph Cheong (179,500), Scott Davies (166,600), Celina Lin (135,100), Daniel Colman (130,400) and Mike McDonald (125,400).

Colman had started the day third in chips but had struggled to get anything going in the first few levels slipping down the leader board. A table change seemed to help matters and he applied the pressure in a number of spots late on in the day, particularly when he shoved the river of a {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{4-Spades} board against Jason Mo who had the clock called on him before folding. Colman showed the table the {a-Spades} but left them guessing what his other card was.

Play will resume on Thursday at 3 p.m. local time. As always, be sure to check in with PokerNews for all of the latest updates.

Colman Exacts Revenge On Mo

Level 12 : 900/1,800, 200 ante

The clock had been called on Jason Mo who had bet 16,900 on the river of a board reading {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{4-Spades}. Daniel Colman had moved all in and Mo was seemingly at a loss at what to do. With 30 seconds left to decided Mo said, “I wanna call so bad.” before sliding his card into the muck.

The table implored Colman to show one card and as he turned it over Mike McDonald correctly called the {a-Spades}/ “I actually feel good about my fold.” Mo said. Dan Smith chipped in with an authoritative, “I know what he had.” but declined to share it with the rest of the table and watching crowd. Colman remained tight lipped and stacked his chips.

Kan Ships on Bold

Level 12 : 900/1,800, 200 ante

The flop read {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Buyanjargal Bold was heads up with Raiden Kan. Bold checked the flop and Kan led out with a bet of 6,000. Bold came over the top with a check-raise to 12,200 and Kan called to see a turn.

The dealer produced the {7-Hearts} on fourth street and Bold bet 11,600. Kan responded by moving all in over the top, which was a bet for Bold's remaining stack of 56,000. Bold thought for about a minute and ultimately decided to pass. Kan was pushed the pot and his stack has increased to about 225,000.

Colman’s Reads Slightly Off

Level 12 : 900/1,800, 200 ante

Daniel Colman had just paid off a small river bet to Pakinai Lisawad who had flopped top pair when he got involved in the next bigger hand.

Mike McDonald opened the action from early position for 4,500, got a call from Jason Mo and Colman made the call from the small blind. The flop was {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}{q-Clubs} and it checked around. The turn card was the {10-Hearts} and when Colman and McDonald checked Mo made it 7,300. Colman called and McDonald folded.

The river was the {7-Spades} and Colman again checked for a final time. A chunky bet of 25,400 from Mo saw Colman puff out his cheeks and ask, “You have ace jack?” before making the call. Mo had turned the straight with his {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} and Colman mucked his hand.

Smith Puts Lisawad On Clock

Level 12 : 900/1,800, 200 ante

Pakinai Lisawad checked it over to Dan Smith on a flop of {q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{7-Spades} and he bet 13,000. Lisawad made the call and they went to the turn card {5-Diamonds}. Lisawad check-called again, this time a bet of 17,000 from Smith.

The river was the {3-Clubs} and a final check from Liswad saw a shove from Smith for close to 50,000 and Liswad went deeo in the tank, seemingly bamboozled. He thought for a long time, in fact close to ten minutes and it would eventually be Smith himself who called the clock.

Lisawad put out the calling chips and Smith flipped over {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}. Lisawad’s cards went in the muck and Smith got full value with his pocket aces.
