Day 2 Comes to A Close; Holbrook Emerges as Chip Leader

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Day 2 of The PokerStars.net Asia-Pacific Poker Tour Main Event in Seoul ended just thirty minutes following the bubble bursting. The day started with 92 players and after eight levels just 24 are left. Jeffrey Holbrook has emerged as the chip leader with a total of 579,000 in chips.

The day began with Aaron Lim, last year’s champion arriving 40-minutes late thanks to Seoul traffic. He came back to a stack of only 7,100, but was able to find a double up. Still short, he was unfortunately eliminated a short time later when he went all in with a weak ace.

The action started out relatively fast and furious with a lot of gamble early on. Things slowed down during the middle of the day and play became even more cautious as the bubble approached. Hand-for-hand play went relatively fast as the big stacks were taking advantage of the situation and the short stacks were letting them. The bubble lasted about 30 minutes and finally burst with about 25 minutes left to play in the day. Sid Kim was the the unfortunate 29th-place finisher and he fell at the hands of Yen Cheng Huang when his pocket fives couldn't improve upon the flopped pair of Huang.

Some other notables to leave the tournament on Day 2 included PokerStars Team Online Naoya Kihara, last month's Macau Millions Main Event winner Hao Chen, and former ANZPT Grand Final winner, Sam Razavi.

The chip leaders at the beginning of the day fared relatively well with six of the top 10 coming back for the final day of play. They are: Sam Cohen (417,000), Raiden Kan (202,000), Tsun Ming Chang (165,000), Kelvin John Beattie (120,000), An Tai Young (99,000), and Stephen Lavrin (78,000). Other notables with chips are last year’s runner-up Chane Kampanatsanyakorn (281,000) and Winfred Yu (244,000).

Join us tomorrow for continuing coverage of the PokerStars.net APPT Main Event in Seoul. Play begins at 12 p.m. local time and we will be playing until we crown a champion. See you tomorrow!

Holbrook Eliminates Lovelock

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We came to the table in the middle of the preflop betting action. Tsun Ming had 21,000 in front of him, Jeff Holbrook had 43,500 in front of him and Colin Eric Lovelock just made it 85,000 to go. Ming folded but Holbrook made the call.

The flop came {10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{10-Spades} and Holbrook checked over to Lovelock who went all in. Holbrook called and turned over {10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for flopped quads. Lovelock had {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades} and got up from his chair. The turn {7-Spades} and river {6-Spades} made Lovelock's elimination official and Holbrook's chip stack continues to grow.

The Bubble Has Burst

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Sid Kim raised from under the gun to 10,000. He wanted to raise more but there was some confusion on his motion and the amount of chips in his hand. According to the dealer, he said raise with 9,000 chips in his hand and then pulled 4,000 back to get additional chips for a larger raise. The ruling came down that since he said raise with 9,000 in his hand that he could only raise to the minimum of 10,000.

After the decision, that action folded around to Yen Cheng Huang in the big blind, who seemed hesitant to make the call but eventually did.

The flop of {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades} was dealt and Huang checked over to Kim who announced "all in" and Huang made the call. When the hands were tabled Huang was ahead with {j-Hearts}{10-Spades} and Kim held {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}.

The {3-Hearts} turn and {7-Hearts} river didn't change Kim's fate and he exited the tournament in 29th place. The remaining players are now guaranteed KRW4,800,000.
