The Croc Gets Action

Billy "The Croc" Argyros
Billy "The Croc" Argyros
Over on table three, four players including Billy "The Croc" Argyros limped into the pot to see a flop of {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. It was checked around and the turn brought the {4-Spades}. Crocky bets out on the turn and gets one customer. The river brings the {3-Diamonds} and Crocky fires another 1,200 into the pot. He is called and flips up {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} for the backdoor straight.

As he rakes in his chips Crocky chirps "I'm staying on the 12th floor guys - what does seven + five equal?"

Aces Versus Kings With Mixed Results

We've just had two clashes of pocket aces versus pocket kings with two interesting results.

On table six, Danny Huynh was nervous when his opponent called his big re-raise on the flop of {5-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{2-Clubs}. So much so, that both players checked the turn and river of {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Huynh with {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} took down the pot, but his opponent was thrilled to have lost the minimum with his {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}.

There was much faster action over on table five, where John Holsonback was in great shape with his {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades} all in pre-flop against Alan Shortall's {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}. However when the board came {9-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{K-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}, Shortall was stacking his chips while Holsonback was left wondering what might have been.

Hand Number Two and Hachem is Busy Again

On a flop of {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts} an unknown player bets 300 and Joe Hachem raises to 700. This is then raised by the unknown player to 1,000. Gary Lent and Joe instantly comment that the raise isn't big enough. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and the unknown player checked again leaving Hachem to fire 1,600 at the pot. The unknown player makes the call. When the {Q-Clubs} hit on the river the unknown player checked again and Hachem checked behind him rolling over {K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}. This was dominated by his opponent who had {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} for quad queens.

Joe Hachem In The Action Instantly

On his very first hand Joe Hachem looks at his card and comments "Good Start" before raising to 300 under the gun. Three players call and the flop comes {J-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Hachem checks and the first player throws out a 5,000 chip and says, "I bet pot". Hachem advises the player that you can't do that in no limit holdem and a tournament director is called. It is ruled that the player bet the pot and his bet stands at 1,600. Everyone folds around to Hachem who folds {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

Wilhelm Fuhrer the First to go

With the board reading {8-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} Dan Schreiber bet 2,500 and Wilhelm Fuhrer made the call. When the river came the {3-Diamonds} Schreiber bet 6,700 and Fuhrer moved all in over the top. This was instantly called by Schreiber who had {8-Spades}{6-Hearts} for a full house. Fuhrer rolled over {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and was eliminated.

Gary Lent Speculates to Accumulate

On the flop of {A-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} Lent's opponent checks, with Lent then betting 400 at the pot. The other player then raises to 1,000 and Lent makes the call. Both players then check the {3-Spades} turn. The river is the {6-Clubs} and Lent's opponent checks. Lent then fires out with 1,800 and is called instantly. At the showdown, Lent rolled over {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} to the disgust of his opponent.

Big Names in Action

Some of the biggest names in Australian poker have taken their seats including Billy "The Croc" Argyros, Michael "Sticky" Guttman and Gary Benson. Also just arriving is Isabelle Mercier. After taking part in the opening ceremony, Joe Hachem has yet to take his seat.

PokerNetwork's Own Michael Dunworth Off to a Busy Start

Michael Dunworth has been extremely active in the opening stages of today's play. Dunworth raised the first six pots to 525 and watched the entire table fold. Then on the seventh hand of play Dunworth limped in. The big blind then raised to 500 and Dunworth re-raised to 2,500. The big blind was having none of that and instantly pushed all in. Dunworth eventually laid his hand down.
