Zhao Races To Join Chip Leaders

With a raise to 1,650 from JC Tran, followed by another raise to about 5,000 in front of him, David Zhao decided to shove all in for his last 30,000 chips. Tran folded but the other player made a crying call for his last chips.

Zhao: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}

The race was on as the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} to give Zhao the pot and eliminate his opponent. Zhao is now stacking up 55,000 chips.

Carmona Gives in to Pressure Bet

Play at Table 11 has turned into a battle of wills over the last few hours. On a flop of {J-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}, Rami Boukai was first into the pot with a bet of 3,330. Don Carmona raised that bet to 8,800. After double-checking how much Carmona was playing behind (about 26,000), Boukai then moved all-in for 50,000. Carmona didn't wait long before mucking his hand.

Boukai is up to 63,000.

Tran Is Back

JC Tran
JC Tran
JC Tran opened with a raise from under the gun and found one caller in middle position.

The flop came down {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Tran checked to his opponent who took a stab of 2,600. Tran made the call.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and again Tran checked and his opponent fired a second barrel worth 5,000. Tran took a moment and tossed out a call.

The river brought the {10-Clubs} and Tran checked for a third time, and once again his opponent released a bet of 8,000. The bet represented most of Tran's stack but he quickly cut out the required chips and splashed them into the middle.

Tran's opponent sheepishly revealed {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for just king-high as Tran tabled {Q-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a pair of eights which was good to scoop a huge pot.

"That's how the pros do it huh?" quipped Amnon Filippi from the rail.

"Nice catch!" chirped Tran's opponent.

"Don't you mean nice call?" replied Filippi.

After being on the short stack for most of the day, Tran is incredibly now up to 36,000 and looking dangerous.

Another Star Dimmed

Cecilia Nordenstam
Cecilia Nordenstam
No sooner had we returned to Cecilia Nordenstam's table than we noticed two things. First, the lovely Liv Boeree had been eliminated while we were gone. Second, Nordenstam seems to be mixing it up quite a bit. She was one of three players to take an all-diamond raised flop of {3-Diamonds} {k-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}. There was a check and a bet of 2,000 in front of Nordenstam. She splashed a raise to 6,000 into the pot and quickly chased off both of her opponents.

Nordenstam is up to 60,000.

Everything's Aces for Nordenstam

Cecilia Nordenstam's been on a tear at Table 2. She's now up to 54,000 in chips after catching aces against a player's king-queen and having them hold up. That victory relieved the player of his entire stack of 15,000 chips and pushed Cecilia near the top of the leader board.

Table Change Works For Tran

Hien Tran
Hien Tran
Hien Tran has recently moved to a new table and his luck has turned full circle after doubling through Rom Lee. The chips were in the middle on a flop of {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}.

"Wow, nice hand!" exclaimed Lee when he saw his {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} was in deep trouble against the {5-Hearts}{5-Spades} of Tran.

Lee was looking for a six but that thought didn't last long as {5-Diamonds} hit the turn to give Tran unbeatable quads. The river bricked the {A-Clubs} and Tran doubles to around 25,000 chips.

Scott Swings and Misses

We're not sure what card Stewart Scott might have been looking for when he called a bet of 3,000 on a {6-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {A-Spades} board. It certainly wasn't the {K-Clubs} that hit the river. Scott checked behind after his opponent checked but couldn't beat {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts}, a pair of aces.
