Peppermint Hippo Needs Action

It might be that limit hold'em doesn't provide the action Ali "The Peppermint Hippo" Khalil needs, but in any case he's desperately looking to take side action.

Willing to prop bet almost anything, he has agreed to a small side bet with Craig Bergeron on whether the field totals an odd or even number.

Guzzardi's Dream River

Michael "TheBigSiCkO" Guzzardi is one of the early leaders in this tournament on the strength of a set on the river. Guzzardi bet 100 chips on the flop into his opponent, who flat-called, and both players checked the turn.

On the river things got a little crazy, raising back and forth until the chips went in. Guzzardi's {q-Diamonds}

was good for a bigger set then his opponent's turned set with {10-Hearts}

"Feels Like a Satellite"

Jim Sachinidis, a player renowned for not being "backwards in coming forwards," has stated his dislike of the use of the Crown weekly tournament chip set over the use of the championship chips.

In an effort to protect the integrity of the Main Event, all side events use a different chip set to the one in play in the Main Event. With the championship chips in use in the Main Event, Sachinidis will have to make do with the "satellite chips."

The field is comprised of mostly local players headlined by Mel Judah, Dennis Huntly, Steve Topakas, Roy Vandersluis, Abel Cabrera, Karib Karib, Helen Davis, Tony "Bond18" Dunst, Bruno Portaro and Ali "The Peppermint Hippo" Khalil.

The crowd is on the rail in full force here in the Crown poker room.

Welcome to Event 13: $1,100 Mixed Hold'em. This event will alternate each level between a fixed-limit hold'em and no-limit structure. Players will start with 5000 chips and the blinds will go up every 30 minutes. This event is a one-day event, we will crown a champion sometime in the early hours of tomorrow we expect.

Our focus will be on the Main Event, but we'll still endeavor to bring you regular summary updates from the progress of this event throughout the day.
