A Game of the Nuts

It's often mentioned that Omaha is a game of the nuts, and a recent four-way pot at Ivan Demidov's table illustrates that concept beautifully. Demidov raised preflop after two players had limped in. Jason Gray called the raise from the button, as did the limpers. The four men took a flop of {6-Clubs} {2-Spades} {9-Spades}. Action checked to Demidov, who fired out a bet. Everyone called to the turn, which came {3-Spades}. On this street, action checked to Gray in late position. He seized the initiative with a bet that was called only by one of the limpers; the other limper and Demidov both surrendered their hands.

On the river {J-Spades}, Gray and his opponent each put one bet into the pot and then showed down their hands. Gray made the nut low with {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {7-Clubs}; his opponent made the second-nut high with {K-Spades} {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}.
