Michael Matthews Eliminated in 5th Place (AUD $8,750)

Michael Matthews Eliminated in 5th Place (AUD $8,750)
Michael Matthews Eliminated in 5th Place (AUD $8,750)
Michael Matthews had been crippled down to just 30,000 in a previous hand after Fred Chaptini doubled through him with pocket aces against his {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Matthews moved it into the middle a short time later and was called down by Alan Nicholls.

Nicholls: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Matthews: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

The flop of {3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} helped neither player, but Matthews found some possibilities when the {7-Clubs} appeared on the turn.

However a repeat {10-Spades} fell on the river, eliminating Matthews, who has cashed in all three Aussie Millions events he has played this year and made two final tables - a fantastic effort from the 'Man from Nagambie'.

Nicholls moves up to 360,000 in chips.

John Broukoumis Eliminated in 6th Place (AUD $6,875)

John Broukoumis has just been sent to the rail in 5th place after being stacked by Damien Lui.

Broukoumis moved the last of his short stack in preflop with {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades} but found himself dominated by Lui's {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}.

Though Broukoumis hit on the flop of {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, there was nothing more as the turn and river ran out {4-Hearts}, {j-Diamonds}, ending Broukoumis' run in this event.

Lui is now up to 317,000 in chips.

Geordie Wicks Eliminated in 7th Place (AUD $5,000)

Roland Hawkins has just moved up to 530,000 in chips and is dominating this final table after taking out Geordie Wicks.

The money was all in the middle before the flop once again and we were there to see the cards being turned up:

Wicks: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Hawkins: {a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Wicks lost the flip when the board ran out {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, ergo losing his tournament life but still collects for his 7th place finish.

Scott Peel Eliminated in 9th Place (AUD $2,500)

Scott Peel moved all in preflop with {a-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and was called down by Christopher Brammer who revealed {k-Spades}{j-Spades}.

However Brammer took the lead when the board came down {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and held it all the way as the turn and river ran out {q-Hearts}, {j-Clubs}, sending Peel to the rail in 9th place.

Brammer is up to 160,000 in chips.

Joey Baker Eliminated in 10th Place (AUD $2,000)

The pace of the eliminations has not let up - as we were acquiring the final table chip counts, play continued and we lost Joey Baker in the very first hand.

Baker moved all in with {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} on a flop of {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, but was called down by Roland Hawkins who tabled {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds} for two pair.

The turn of the {10-Hearts} gave him more outs, but the river {9-Spades} bricked out on the river and thus sent Baker to the rail in 10th place.
