Hachem and Thorson Tangle

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
William Thorson
William Thorson

We picked up the action on the flop as the dealer spread out {6-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {6-Spades}. Action was heads up, and Joe Hachem checked. William Thorson bet 3,100 only to see Hachem check-raise to 8,500, but the action wasn't dying there. Thorson reraised to 15,700, and Hachem popped it right back up to 29,500. Thorson flatted now, and the {8-Spades} landed on fourth street. Perhaps sensing something foul, Hachem checked, and Thorson settled on a bet of 41,000.

It would be some five minutes or so before Hachem reluctantly slipped his cards into the muck, and that pot will push Thorson into a big chip lead. He's got about 160,000 now, while Hachem has taken a big hit back down to about 71,000.

Youssef Sent to the Rail

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Sammy Youssef has been eliminated at the hands of Full Tilt Red Pro Carlos Mortensen and as a result, we're down to just 12 players.

Mortensen raised from under the gun and the action folded around to Youssef who called from the big blind to see a flop of {6-Clubs}{A-Spades}{J-Diamonds}.

Youssef led out, but Mortensen quickly repotted all-in. "You got aces?" Youssef asked as he committed the rest of his chips. Mortensen tabled {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} for two pair and Youssef sighed as he rolled up {J-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{8-Spades}.

The turn of the {5-Hearts} kept Mortensen ahead and the river {K-Hearts} sealed Youssef's fate. Mortensen is now up to 93,000 in chips.

Kushner, Chau Sent Packing

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

We missed when the money went into the pot, scrambling over as we saw Joe Kushner standing up to sweat his all in. He was working with {4-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} against Michael Zowie's {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {7-Spades} {5-Diamonds}.

Board: {9-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {2-Hearts}

That makes Zowie the winning flush, sending Kushner to the exit a few places shy of the money.

During the scramble, Christopher Chau was also eliminated at the adjacent table, and we're down to 13 players.

Schoenberg Eliminated

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Erica Schoenberg
Erica Schoenberg

Erica Schoenberg folded all the way around to the big blind for what would be her final hand of the day. Michael Greco limped in, Carlos Mortensen completed from the small blind, and Schoenberg knocked the table for a free flop.

It came {10-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}, and Schoenberg's last 1,200 went into the middle. Greco quickly called with {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {7-Hearts}, and the lady's {9-Spades} {10-Spades} {A-Spades} {3-Clubs} had her in a good spot to double up again.

Those hopes were dashed by the {2-Hearts} turn and {Q-Hearts} river, though, and Schoenberg has been thusly flushed out of the tournament.

Schoenberg All But Out

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Under the gun, Jon Swick limped into the pot, and both Erica Schoenberg and Joe Kushner called from the small and big blinds, respectively.

Three-handed to the flop, the dealer spread out {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {5-Spades}, and Schoenberg led out for 2,600. Kushner raised, and Schoenberg put him all in for the 18,000 he had left.

Showdown
Swick: {A-Spades} {J-Spades} {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} (straight and flush draws)
Schoenberg: {J-Hearts} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} (pair of queens and straight draw)

The turn was just what Swick was looking for as the {3-Spades} left Schoenberg drawing dead to the {10-Clubs} river. When the chips were counted down, she was left with just 600.

Those 600 went into the next pot with {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} against Carlos Mortensen's {6-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {10-Clubs}. Mortensen flopped a set of tens, but Schoenberg turned Broadway to keep her in the game for now.

Shklover Wins Against Vinson

Level 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Ben Vinson
Ben Vinson

Mike Shklover has moved up to 55,000 in chips after taking down a pot against Ben Vinson, who's now down to 25,500 in chips.

The action folded to Grant Trask who min-raised from the cutoff; Shklover called from the button and Joe Hachem and Vinson called from the small and big blinds respectively to go four-handed into a flop that read {7-Spades}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}, which was checked all around.

Hachem then checked the turn of the {6-Diamonds}; Vinson opened for 4,000, Trask folded and Shklover called. Hachem folded, making it heads-up to the river of {9-Diamonds}, where both players checked again.

Shklover turned up {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for the straight and Vinson sent his hand straight into the muck.

Schoenberg Back in Action

Level 7 : 400/800, 0 ante

Erica Schoenberg has been grinding her stack all day long, but is now past 30,000 in chips after winning a hand against Casey Kastle.

On a flop that read {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}, Schoenberg checked to Kastle who opened for 2,500. Schoenberg flat-called and both players checked the turn of the {8-Diamonds}.

Schoenberg then led out for 3,500 on the river of the {6-Spades}; Kastle paused momentarily, then thought better of it and decided to throw his hand into the muck.

Shklover Would Take a Chop, Prefers the Double

Level 7 : 400/800, 0 ante

Under the gun, Joe Hachem made his usual raise to 2,000. The table folded around to the blinds where both Grant Trask and Mike Shklover came along to a three-handed flop.

It brought {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}, and Trask checked. "Pot," Shklover announced, and Hachem could not call the 7,500. Trask elected not to call either, rather check-raising enough to put Shklover all in for 17,900 total.

Showdown
Trask: {A-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {K-Spades} {K-Hearts}
Shklover: {A-Spades} {8-Clubs} {J-Spades} {3-Spades}

Both men flopped top and bottom pair, and Shklover politely asked the dealer for a jack.

Turn: {J-Hearts}. Ding! The river {7-Hearts} sealed the double for Shklover's superior two pair, moving him back into contention with 43,300.
