Hansen Drops Back-to-Back Pots

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen was under the gun, grabbed a handful of chips, and splashed in a raise to 8,300. Richard Yong then three-bet to 20,000 from middle position while the rest of the field got out of the way. When the {3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} was put out on the turn, Hansen checked, Yong bet 40,000, and Hansen folded.

In the very next hand, Sorel Mizzi opened for 7,200 and Hansen defended from the big blind. On the {3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop, Hansen simply check-folded to a bet of 7,600.

Hansen vs. Trickett

Action folded to Sam Trickett in middle position and he opened for 6,000. Gus Hansen was in the hijack and responded with a three-bet to 18,300, which cleared out the rest of the field. When the flop fell {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}{6-Spades}, Trickett check-called a bet of 22,200 before both players checked the {4-Diamonds} turn.

The {3-Hearts} river saw Trickett check, Hansen fire out 50,600, and last year's runner up send his cards to the muck.

Wong Returns but Busts First Hand Back

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Nick Wong has returned to his seat, but it was short lived. On his first hand back, Phil Ivey raised from the cutoff and Wong moved all in from the small blind for around 10,000. Winfred Yu called from the big, as did Ivey, and the flop came down {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

Both active players checked, leading to the {7-Diamonds} turn. Yu led out with a bet, Ivey folded, and the cards were turned up. Unfortunately we couldn't see the holdings clearly, but it appeared Yu held {Q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. The river cards was unknown, but we do know that Wong was eliminated on the hand.

Where is Nick Wong?

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Nick Wong had just 10,400 at the break, which isn't much considering the $1,500/$3,000 blinds with a $400 ante. With that said, he is not in his seat as play has recommenced. If he waits too long, he very well could blind out.

Break Time

Level 2 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Players are now on a 10-minute break. During this time the secondary table will be moved up to the main stage, while the current feature table becomes the secondary table.

The Plan

Level 2 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Tournament officials just announced that they will be alternating the two tables on the Main Stage, which means we will have access to what is currently the feature table shortly. Word also has it that 2004 Aussie Millions Main Event Champion Tony Bloom is on his way to enter the event.

Wong Barely Holding On

Nick Wong had dwindled to just 3,900 when he moved all in under the gun. Daniel Negreanu then raised to 10,000 from the button, which Ivey four-bet to 30,000 from the small blind. Negreanu folded and the cards were turned up:

Showdown

Ivey{A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Wong{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Ivey was ahead, and pulled even further ahead on the {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop. The {J-Diamonds} turn have Ivey trips, but it also provided Wong with a flush draw. Much to the latter's delight, the {2-Diamonds} hit the on river to complete the said draw and give him a triple, though he is still quite short.
