Mizzi Wins Race for Tournament Life

Sorel Mizzi raised to 9,000 from the cutoff only to have Sam Trickett three-bet to 29,500 from the small blind. Not to be outdone, Mizzi four-bet to 55,000 and Trickett moved all in. Mizzi was pained by the shove, but he still made a hesitant call for his tournament life.

Showdown

Mizzi{A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Trickett{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Trickett had the majority of his stack in the pot, so this pot would likely determine the fate of both players. Much to Trickett's dismay, his lead evaporated when the flop fell {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Neither the {Q-Spades} turn nor {5-Diamonds} river helped Tickett and Mizzi doubled through.

Yong Flushed Away After Flopping a Set

Richard Yong
Richard Yong

Action folded to Gus Hansen in the hijack and he opened for 10,500. Richard Yong was next to act in the cutoff and three-bet to 30,000, which Paul Phua called from the small blind. Hansen made the call as well and it was three-way action to the {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop.

Phua and Hansen both checked, opening the door for Yong to bet 70,000. Phua got out of the way, Hansen moved all in, and Yong snap-called.

Showdown

Hansen{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Yong{K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}

Yong had flopped the nuts with a set of kings, but Hansen was alive and drawing to a flush. Wouldn't you know it, the {10-Clubs} spiked on the river to complete the said draw, leaving Yong in need of a paired board on the river. The dealer burned and snapped off the {7-Hearts}, a blank for Yong.

It was a bad turn of events for Yong, who had a smile on his face as he shook hands with his opponents and made his exit in 14th place.

"I came to play," Hansen was heard saying after the hand.

Bloom Surpasses Hansen

Gus Hansen was under the gun and opened for 10,500, which Paul Phua called from the cutoff. Tony Bloom then three-bet to38,500 from the small blind, a bet that only Hansen called. It was heads-up action to the {7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{K-Spades} flop, which saw Bloom lead out for 46,000. Hansen quickly mucked his hand and Bloom won the pot without further resistance.

Pocket Rockets for Phua

Paul Phua
Paul Phua

On a {4-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} flop, Paul Phua bet 15,000 from the under-the-gun position and received a call from Gus Hansen, who was on the button. Both players then checked the {9-Diamonds} turn, brining about the {4-Clubs} river.

Phua was first to act and bet 30,000 and Hansen called, mucking as soon as the Chinese businessman rolled over {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}.

Phua Take a Small One Off Bloom

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Action folded to Paul Phua on the button and he raised to 7,000. Tony Bloom made the call from the big blind, and both players proceeded to check the {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} flop. The dealer then burned and turned the {3-Hearts}, which saw Blom lead out for 7,000 and Phua call.

Both players then checked the {10-Diamonds} river, and Bloom rolled over {K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, which was no good against Phua's {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.
