Karamalikis Picks One Up

A player opened to 550 from the hijack seat, Jonathan Karamalikis three-bet to 1,200 on the button, and Lee Nelson cold-called from the small blind. The original raiser called as well.

The flop fell {8-Clubs}{a-Spades}{9-Clubs}, and all three players checked. The turn was the {7-Clubs}, Nelson led out for 900, and both players called. The {10-Clubs} completed the board, and again all three players checked.

Nelson tabled {a-Hearts}{q-Spades} for a pair of aces, but Karamalikis had that beat with {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for a set of tens. He shipped the pot, and now sits with just over 36,000 chips. Nelson slipped down to around 19,000.

More Aussies

Michael Pedley was just spotted to the immediate left of Leo Boxel, and we also ran into Grant Levy and Daniel Neilson. Pedley won the A$1,000 Rebuy tournament last year at the Aussie Millions while Grant Levy is just coming off of a $78,940 score at the PCA when he won the $5,000 Six-Max event.

Daniel Neilson's latest result came in the Star Poker Summer Series in Sydney last December. He finished second for A$112,219, and these are three more players to look out for during this event!

Two for Kwaysser

Valdemar Kwaysser
Valdemar Kwaysser

Valdemar Kwaysser and an opponent were heads up on a flop of {j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Hearts}. When checked to, Kwaysser fired 1,000. His opponent check-raised to 3,100, and Kwaysser called.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, the player checked, and Kwaysser tossed out 4,000. The player folded.

The very next hand, Kwaysser opened to 500 in middle position. The same player called from the blinds, and the dealer fanned {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. The player checked, Kwaysser continued for 500, and the player called.

The turn was the {7-Spades}, both players checked, and the {5-Hearts} completed the board. The player led out for 600, and Kwaysser raised to 4,000. The player tank-called, and Kwaysser tabled {8-Spades}{6-Hearts} for a rivered straight.

The player was shocked to see Kwaysser's hand, and he sported a big grin while raking in the pot.

Jackie Glazier battling heads up against Greg Ostrander last June
Jackie Glazier battling heads up against Greg Ostrander last June

Australian poker fan favorite and World Series of Poker Event #41 runner up Jackie Glazier was just spotted in the room. Glazier nearly won her first bracelet last June when she finished runner up to Greg Ostrander for $458,996. Paul Vas Nunes, just a couple of tables over, finished third in that event.

With $915,822 in live tournament earnings Glazier ranks 24th on the female all-time money leader board, in front of players like Amanda Muscumeci, Erica Schoenberg and Liz Lieu. Being the highest earning female poker player in Australia we feel that the title Australian Queen of Poker is well deserved!

Vas Nunes Takes a Hit

Paul Vas Nunes put up some impressive results in the last year and a half and now he's trying to add an Australian flag to his list of cashes. That's still far away though, as he just lost quite a serious pot. Vas Nunes won Unibet Open Dublin for $151,742 back in 2011 and finished third in a World Series of Poker event last June for $290,407.

Vas Nunes three-bet to 700 from the cutoff after a player in early position had raised it up to 250. The players in the small blind gave it some thought before deciding to make the call. The initial raiser folded creating heads up action.

The flop came down {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3s and Vas Nunes' opponent check-called 1,000. On the turn the {J-Clubs} hit, and once again the small blind checked. Vas Nunes bet 1,800 and his opponent called once again. On the river the {4-Hearts} hit and this time the small blind lead out for 3,600. Vas Nunes called quickly but mucked when his opponent showed {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for a rivered straight.

Karamalikis, O'Dea, Teltscher And Many More Join The Fun

The list of famous players keep getting longer and longer as we just found the following players. The most famous of them all is local favorite Jonathan Karamalikis who recently had the biggest live result of his career. Karamalikis, who's know online as "xMONSTERxDONGx" won the ACOP High Roller for the equivalent of $478,892 in November 2012.

Irish pro Eoghan O'Dea has the biggest single result of this bunch, he finished sixth in the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event banking $1,720,831. Long time English pro Mark Teltscher was very close to becoming the first ever double EPT winner back in 2008, but he fell short, finishing second to Sander Lyloff in Barcelona. Teltscher won $920,015 in that event, after he already won $495,935 during EPT London 2005.

Aristidou is All Out

According to Peter Aristidou, he has already been eliminated from the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event.

Tournament Director Christian Vaughan made the announcement a few moments ago, prompting the players in the field to break out into a chorus of cheers and laughter.

We don't know the details, but evidently it was an aces vs. kings scenario. We're not sure who held the kings, and who held the aces however.
