Adams Doubles With Aces Again

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Brandon Adams was all in and at risk preflop for his last 264,000 with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}. Ping Chan had him at risk with {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, giving Chan a pair and a flush draw, but the turn and river bricked {8-Diamonds}, {j-Clubs} respectively, and Adams doubled to around 535,000 chips.

Chan was chopped down to 490,000.

Antonius Back Over One Million

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius

When we arrived at Table 10, Patrik Antonius (small blind) had 70,000 sitting in front of him. Dave Garcia (big blind) had 130,000 sitting in front of him, and the action was back on Antonius. He called.

The flop fell {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, and Antonius checked. Garcia moved all in for 369,000, and Antonius immediately called.

Antonius: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Garcia: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

Antonius was well ahead with a set of jacks, and it was all over when the {7-Spades} turned. A meaningless {9-Spades} completed the board, and Antonius doubled just over one million chips.

Garcia was left with just 60,000.

Ivey Won't Best Last Year's 12th-Place Finish

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Phil Ivey on Day 1c.
Phil Ivey on Day 1c.

Last year Phil Ivey finished 12th in this very event and then went on to win the $250,000 Challenge later that night. Unfortunately for him (and plenty of poker fans), Ivey won't be bettering that result here in 2013.

His demise came when he opened for 20,000 from the cutoff and then called a three-bet to 56,000 from James Obst in the big blind. The latter led out for 60,000 on the {4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop, and Ivey quietly announced that he was all in for roughly 330,000. Neither Obst nor the spectators heard the declaration, and the two players sat motionless for the better part of two minutes before the dealer informed Obst that action was on him. The Australian, who was clearly surprised, made a quick call.

Ivey: {6-Clubs}{6-Hearts}
Obst: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}

Ivey had flopped an open-ended straight draw to go with his overpair, but Obst, who killed two of his outs, had him pipped with a bigger overpair. The {8-Clubs} turn was of no help to Ivey, and neither was the {A-Diamonds} river. Ivey was eliminated from the tournament in 30th place while Obst chipped up to 1 million.

Markholt Loses Race for Tournament Life

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Lee Markholt (Day 2)
Lee Markholt (Day 2)

Lee Markholt raised under the gun only to have Ping Chan three-bet to 60,000 from the button. The blinds both folded, Markholt moved all in for 159,000, and Chan made the call.

Markholt: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Chan: {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

According to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, Markholt had a 45.50% chance of winning the hand. He watched that drop to 22.22% when the {5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop missed him completely, and that was essentially cut in half when the {3-Diamonds} appeared on the turn. Markholt needed either an ace or queen on the river to extend his tournament life, but it wasn't in the cards as the {7-Hearts} blanked.

Aces on the River Drowns Rabichow

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know Kevin Rabichow was all in holding the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and at risk against the {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} of Sean Keeton.

The {9-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop was fairly kind to Rabichow, who got it in way behind, as it delivered him an open-ended straight draw. The {Q-Clubs} turn didn't complete it, but it did pair Rabichow's queen and thrust him into the lead. Keeton needed either an ace or king on the river to eliminate his opponent, and he got the former as the {A-Diamonds} spilked.

Obst Ousts Karita

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

James Obst opened for 20,000 from the cutoff and action folded around to a short-stacked Shoshiro Karita, who moved all in for 57,000 from the big blind. Obst called and the cards were turned up.

Obst: {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Karita: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop paired both players but Karita stayed in the lead with a pair of aces. Unfortunately for him, the dealer burned and turned the {K-Hearts} to give Obst trips and a hammerlock on the hand. The {5-Spades} river was not the ace that Karita needed, and he was eliminated from the tournament while Obst chipped up to 650,000.

Aces Versus Kings

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Brandon Adams was all in preflop for 154,000 holding the {A-Diamonds}{a-Spades} and was way ahead of Jan Collado's {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. The board ran out a clean {J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Adams doubled through Collado.

Wong Doubles Through Karita

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

"Hong Kong" Kenny Wong was all in and at risk preflop with {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. Shoshiro Karita had him at risk with {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}, and the board ran out {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

Wong doubled to 330,000 chips, while Karita slipped to 60,000.

Obst Gets Some Back

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

James Obst and Daniel Laidlaw were heads up on a flop of {3-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Obst checked, Laidlaw fired 25,000, and Obst check-raised to 65,000. Laidlaw called.

The turn was the {10-Clubs}, Obst led out for 72,000, and Laidlaw called.

The {2-Spades} completed the board, and Obst tanked for a bit before moving all in for 281,000. Laidlaw tanked for a bit, then folded.

Antonius Lays Down Pocket Kings

Level 18 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

With 400,000 already in the pot and a board reading {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{8-Clubs}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts}, Dylan Honeyman moved all in from the big blind for 319,000 and put the pressure on Patrik Antonius, who was in the under-the-gun position. The Finn, who only had 400,000 behind, hit the tank for a little over five minutes before folding, but not before showing the {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. Honeyman, who sent his cards to the dealer unseen, was pushed the robust pot.
