Chew Coolered; Eliminated

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Stevan Chew (Day 2) - Eliminated
Stevan Chew (Day 2) - Eliminated

When we reached the table, the board was {6-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{j-Clubs}. Stevan Chew led out for 38,000, and Mervin Chan raised to 127,000. Chew tanked for a bit, then moved all in for around 400,000.

There was a beat, and then Chan called.

Chan: {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Chew: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

Chew needed an ace, jack, or six to survive, but the {q-Clubs} bricked on the river. The local hero was eliminated in 36th place, while Chan now has over 1.1 million chips.

Break

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

The remaining 34 players are on a 15-minute break. We have two elimination hands coming.

Collado Doubles

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After a series of bets and raises, Jan Collado was all in and at risk for his last 370,000 preflop holding {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}. [Removed:17] had him at risk with {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}, and the flop was about as good as he could ask for: {9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}.

The {10-Diamonds} on the turn gave him three more outs to catch up, but the {9-Spades} bricked on the river.

Collado doubled to 755,000 chips, while Yan dropped down to 325,000.

Ivey Crippled

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Phil Ivey (Day 2)
Phil Ivey (Day 2)

Phil Ivey opened to 16,000 on the button, Daniel Laidlaw three-bet to 44,000 from the big blind, and Ivey made the call.

The dealer fanned {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, and Laidlaw checked. Ivey tossed out three brown T25,000 chips, and Laidlaw called.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, both players checked, and the {3-Clubs} completed the board. Laidlaw checked a third and final time, prompting Ivey to slide out a tower of yellow T1,000 chips.

The bet was 100,000, and Laidlaw tanked for the better part of two minutes before calling. Ivey ripped over {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a pair of tens, but they were no good against Laidlaw's {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for a pair of queens.

Laidlaw is up to 720,000 chips, while Ivey is in the danger zone with 130,000.

Simon Hits Three-Outer on the River

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

We're not sure of the preflop action but we do know Jeremy Simon was all in preflop holding {K-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and was up against the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} of Sam Cohen.

The {6-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop was no help to either player, but the {Q-Hearts} turn was kind to Cohen as it paired her queen and left Simon looking for a king on the river to stay alive. Wouldn't you know it, the dealer burned and put out the {K-Hearts} to extend Simon's tournament life.

Big Slick Versus Queens for 900K Pot

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

When we caught up with the action Shoshiro Karita had 45,000 out in front of him in the big blind and James Obst, who was in the cutoff, had made it 100,000 to go. Karita thought for about 30 seconds before announcing that he was all in, and Obst called off for 442,000 total.

Obst: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Karita: {Q-}{Q-}

It was a classic flip, but an ace in the window on the {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop was gin for Obst. He had taken the lead with a pair of aces and left Karita in need of a queen. The {7-Spades} turn wasn't it, and neither was the {2-Spades} river. With that, Obst doubled big through Karita.

Massive Pot for Lam

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Man Hei Lam (Day 2)
Man Hei Lam (Day 2)

When we reached Table 11, there was around 200,000 in the pot on a board of {8-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}. Man Hei Lam was all in for 491,000, and there were no bets in front of Jan Collado, meaning that he open-shipped for more than two times the pot on the turn.

Collado looked very confused, but called nonetheless.

Lam: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
Collado: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The river was a repeat deuce - the {2-Spades} - and Lam shipped a massive double up. He now sits with around 1.2 million chips, while Collado is down to around 305,000.

Short Stack Finds a Double

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Stuart Kerr began the day as the short stack, and it didn't take him long to get it in.

It happened after Celina Lin had raised and Kerr made it 51,000 more to go, leaving himself just a single yellow T1,000 chip behind. Lin made a long call and then led out for 5,000 on the {Q-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop. Kerr called off and the cards were turned up.

Lin: {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Kerr: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

Kerr had flopped top pair with top kicker and was firmly in the lead. The {4-Hearts} turn left Lin drawing dead, and after the {Q-Hearts} was run out on the river for good measure, Kerr was pushed the pot.
