"Toothpick" Tony Gets Picked Off

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

"Toothpick" Tony Kambouroglou, who fired two bullets and missed in the recently completed $25,000 Challenge, was just eliminated from the tournament after getting his last 13,000 or so all in preflop holding {a-}{8-} against the {7-}{7-} of Daniel Neilsen. The walking sticks held and "Toothpick's" Main Event came to an end here in the last level of the night.

Last Break of the Night

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Level 6 has come to an end, and that means it's time for the last 15-minute break of the night. Approximately 101 of the 153 players that started the day remain, and when they return they'll play one more 90-minute level before bagging and tagging.

Duhamel Stays Alive

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

After a player in the cutoff opened for 1,100, Team PokerStars Pro Jonathan Duhamel three-bet all in for 4,350 more from the small blind. The big folded and the original raiser made the call.

Duhamel: {a-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Opponent: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Duhamel was ahead with his ace, and he strengthened his lead when he paired it on the {9-Spades}{j-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop. Neither the {4-Hearts} turn nor {2-Diamonds} river proved harmful and Duhamel held to double to 11,000.

Colman Cooked

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Julius Colman is no longer with us in the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event. His demise came courtesy of Gerard McNeill on an {a-}{j-}{3-} flop. Colman got his chips in holding {a-}{k-}, but he was in dire straits against McNeill's {j-}{j-}. The turn left Colman drawing dead, and after the river was run out for good measure, he made the lonely walk out the door.

Chan Hits the Rail to Ensure a New Aussie Millions Champion

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Mervin Chan
Mervin Chan

Mervin Chan was the only player not to experience elimination last year on his way to a $1.6-million payday, but this year he had to deal with it on Day 1b in brutal fashion. The betting details escaped us, but we do know that Chan was sent to the rail by Sotirios Kappas.

The last of Chan's chips went in on the river with a board reading {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, and he was likely confident with his {k-Spades}{10-Hearts} flopped Broadway straight. Unfortunately for him Kappas, who won a big pot earlier in the day by hitting running cards, managed to make a runner-runner full house with the {q-Spades}{9-Spades}. A shell-shocked Chan watched his chips pushed across the table and then took his leave from the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event ensuring that a new champion will be crowned.

Neilson Sends Another Player Into the Tank

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, the player in the big blind checked and Daniel Neilson put out a bet from the button. The big blind then spring to life with a check-raise, Neilson called, and the {Q-Diamonds} turned. Neilson called a bet of 4,200 from his opponent, which led to the {3-Hearts} on the river.

The big blind put on the brakes with a check, and that opened the door for Neilson to bet 13,500. The big blind hit the tank hard, and he sat there for over five minutes before releasing his hand. Neilson has put his opponents to the test here on Day 1b, and more times than not they've folded after spending some time in the tank.

Defending Champ Gets Luck to Stay Alive

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Mervin Chan has had an up-and-down day, and as of late things have been a little more down than up. He recently got his short stack of 6,525 all in preflop holding the {k-Spades}{j-Hearts} and looked as if he might be eliminated as his opponent had him dominated with the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

Fortunately for Chan, the {j-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop delivered him salvation by pairing his jack. Neither the {Q-Spades} turn nor {5-Diamonds} river changed a thing and Chan extended his title defense for the time being.
