The Cat Slips Out of the Gate

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Mervin "The Cat" Chan, winner of the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event, Tim Slater, and a third player took a flop of {j-Spades}{k-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. The action checked to the player in the hijack who fired out 250, and both Chan and Slater called.

The turn was the {j-Diamonds}, the trio checked, and the {3-Hearts} completed the board. Slater checked, Chan fired out 1,200, and the player in the hijack raised to 3,000. Both Slater and Chan mucked, and the river raiser raked in the pot.

The Toothpick Bluffs Twice

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

We caught up with the action on a board of {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, and Antonis "The Toothpick" Kambouroglou was faced with a bet of 500. He opted to raise to 1,100, and his opponent called.

The {9-Hearts} completed the board, the player led out again - this time for 1,500 - and again The Toothpick put in a raise. This time he made it 4,550 to go, and his opponent called.

Kambouroglou quickly tossed his cards into the muck, signifying a failed bluff, and tumbled down to 25,500 chips.

The "Next Aussie Millions Champ" Promotion

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

Across the room there is a three-handed sit n'go taking place as part of Crown's "Next Aussie Millions Champ" promotion. The three players — Jamie Robertson, Anita Le, and Savvas Haitidis — were previously selected to be the faces of the 2014 Aussie Millions. As a result, there are numerous banners throughout the poker room featuring their faces.

As part of the promotion, the three local players were invited to participate in a three-man sit n'go for a seat into the Main Event. Needless to say it's the opportunity of a lifetime for Robertson (an electrician), Le (a disability nurse), and Haitidis (a recycling company owner). We'll keep you updated on who wins the seat, but in the meantime check out some photos from the event:

What's Newey?

Level 3 : 100/200, 25 ante

There was an open to 500 from early position, Paul Newey called on the button, and a player in the small blind called.

The flop fell {7-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{j-Spades}, both players checked, and the turn brought the {10-Spades}. The player in the small blind led out for 750, the original raiser folded, and Newey made the call.

The {2-Hearts} completed the board, the player led out for another 1,100, and Newey tank-called. The player showed {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for ace-high, and Newey took the pot down with {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a pair of sevens.

A Couple Hands with Rubie

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Brendon Rubie recently entered the tournament and has wasted little time in jumping in action.

In the first hand, the board read {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} when a middle-position player checked and Rubie bet 1,300. His opponent made the call and then check-called a bet of 1,800 on the {8-Spades} river. Rubie tabled the {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for kings and nines, but it was no good as the middle-position player had a flush with the {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

In the next hand, a player limped and then called Rubie's raise to 700. Both players checked the {5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop, the {9-Clubs} turned, and Rubie fired out 700 after his opponent checked. It did the trick as the limper folded and Rubie got a little back.
