McCorkell Doubles Through Seiver

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Craig McCorkell got his short stack all in holding the {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} and was in great shape to double through Scott Seiver, who held the {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Seiver has been running well, but this hand broke that street as he failed to catch on the {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{10-Spades} board. Ship the double to McCorkell.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, It's Been a Pleasure"

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Antonio Esfandiari
Antonio Esfandiari

We've just lost one of the most entertaining and successful poker players in the world in Antonio Esfandiari. Fittingly, his demise came in a very interesting hand.

It began when action folded to Esfandiari and he said aloud, "Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a pleasure."

He then raised to 105,000, leaving himself just 30,000 behind. Action folded around to local player Rahul Rastogi in the small blind and he eyed up Esfandiari's remaining stack, glanced over at Ami Barer in the big blind, and then announced a raise to 202,000. Much to the surprise of those surrounding the table, Barer then snap-shoved for 410,000.

Rastogi seemed a bit shocked at the sudden turn of events and hit the tank after Esfandiari had caleld off his remaining chips.

"It's a long flight down under," said Esfandiari regarding the long flight he'll have back to the States. At that point Esfandiari got up out of his seat and began to collect his things. Eventually Rastogi folded what he claimed were jacks, and the cards were turned up.

Esfandiari: {6-}{6-}
Barer: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Barer had woken up with a legitimate hand, and that left Esfandiari calling for a six. His optimism was short lived though as the {5-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Spades} flop delivered Barer a set and left "The Magician" in need of running sixes. The {8-Diamonds} turn took away any chance of that happening, and after the {A-Diamonds} was run out on the river, Esfandiari made his way to the payout desk in 42nd place.

"Good luck," Esfandiari offered before departing.

Meanwhile, Bob Trask was eliminated from the tournament in 41st place.

Bussmann Bounces Back, Busting Chang

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Florian Bussmann took a considerable hit when he doubled up Scott Seiver roughly a half an hour ago, but the German just received some chips back, eliminating Eng Heng Chang.

Chang ran into Bussmann's {a-}{a-}, and the rockets held up, projecting him to 520,000 chips.

Updated Chip Counts

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Fazzolari Doubles then Busts

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After doubling up with {9-Hearts}{9-Spades} against Jae Kyung "Simba" Sim's {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, Antonio Fazzolari was eliminated by Andreas Lodemel. Lodemel check-raised all in on a flop of {8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}, and Fazzolari called with {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Lodemel was drawing very live with {k-Spades}{8-Spades} - middle pair and a flush draw - but the {2-Clubs} on the turn missed him completely.

The {9-Spades} on the river gave Lodemel a flush, however, and sent Fazzolari packing. Lodemel now sits with 500,000 chips.

Massive Double for Mizzi Through Juanda

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Sorel Mizzi
Sorel Mizzi

Sorel Mizzi and John Juanda played a five-bet all-in pot where both players showed down premium pairs.

Unfortunately for Juanda, Mizzi's {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} dominated his {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, and the board produced all bricks - {7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Mizzi doubled to 905,000 chips, while Juanda fell to 410,000.

Balsiger Busts Graham

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After a series of preflop bets and raises, Jarred Graham was all in and at risk for roughly 200,000 holding {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. He was racing against the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} of Jake Balsiger, and the 2012 Octo-Niner flopped a pair of kings when the dealer fanned {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Graham needed to hit one of the two remaining tens in the deck on the turn or the river, but neither the {2-Diamonds} nor the {q-Clubs} improved his hand.

Graham is off to collect his money from the cage, while Balsiger climbed up to 875,000 chips.

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Daryl Done and Dusted

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

After getting his {a-}{a-} cracked by Salvatore Fazzino - Fazzino flopped a set of fours - Daryl Hussey hit the rail after the dinner break.

Fazzino is now up to 705,000 chips.
