Philbort Empties the Clip

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Phillip Gruissem
Phillip Gruissem

Philipp Gruissem moved up to around 50,000 chips after shoving the river versus an opponent.

The action was three-way to a {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop and the action checked around to the button who bet 2,000. Gruissem was in the big blind and announced a raise to 5,200. That was enough to oust the third party but not the button, who called.

Gruissem fired 6,500 on the turn and was quickly called. The board completed with the {k-Clubs} and Gruissem moved all in for his last 22,400.

His opponent took several minutes to make a decision and tried a few little tricks - like grabbing the chips to call - in an attempt to get a read out of the German. To be fair, that's a pointless exercise as Gruissem goes into a meditative like state in situations like that one and is impossible to get a read off. Eventually the fold came and Gruissem checked his cards, gave a little smirk, and raked in the pot.

Stavropoulos Wins Massive Three-Way Pot Right Before the Break

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Just before the break, a massive three-way pot went down that resulted in Manny Stavropoulos vaulting over 125K!

We picked up the action with around 5,000 in the pot and a flop of {6-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}. Manny Stavropoulos checked from the big blind and Brian Rast bet 3,500 from middle position. The player in the cutoff then put in a huge all-in raise to 34,900. Stavropoulos thought for a considerable amount of time before shrugging and moving all in over the top for 42,000.

Rast couldn't seem to believe what happened, and it became apparent he had a legitimate hand. He took out his earbud, grabbed his eyeglasses out of their case, and got an accurate count of both his opponents' stacks. Rast, who stated he would have called the cutoff's shove no problem, spent minutes in the tank, and seemed to agonize over the spot sometimes looking as if he was going to call and others like he was going to give it up. Ultimately he spiked in a call.

Rast: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Stavropoulos: {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}

Rast had flopped top pair with top kicker, and just as he expected he was ahead of the cutoff. Unfortunately for him, Stavropoulos had the best hand with a flopped set. Rast seemed disappointed to be in such a bad position, and he watched helplessly as the {3-Spades} turn left him drawing dead.

The meaningless {A-Spades} river sent the cutoff to the rail, cut Rast's stack in half, and sent Stavropoulos a near triple up.

Dirty, Dirty Dirty Mizzi Back in the Black

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

"Dirty man!" said Ole Schemion to Sorel Mizzi after the latter eliminated an opponent to get back above starting stack.

"Dirty, dirty, dirty!" replied a smiling Mizzi.

The Canadian had raised his button and both blinds called to a {j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{q-Spades} flop. The small blind led for 1,500 and Mizzi called after Mike McDonald folded from the big blind.

The turn came as the {6-Diamonds} and the small blind shoved for 9,000. Call.

The small blind opened {q-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for top pair but Mizzi had turned two pair with {j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}. The river came as the {3-Spades}.

The Savage Elimination of Tobias Reinkemeier

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Tobias Reinkemeier
Tobias Reinkemeier

Ben Savage opened for 1,100 under the gun and two spots over German pro Tobias Reinkemeier three-bet all in for 6,750. Action folded back to Savage and he made the call.

Reinkemeier: {j-}{j-}
Savage: {a-}{q-}

It was a classic race, and all Reinkemeier had to do was hold to score the double. That proved easier said than done though as the {a-}{4-}{3-} flop delivered Savage an ace. The {K-} turn meant Reinkemeier needed a jack and a jack only to survive, but it was not meant to be as a third ace appeared.

Ivey Back Over 80K

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Phil Ivey is back on the up after his two pair was better than that of PokerStars Team Asia's Kosei Ichinose.

The action was four-way to a {k-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop and Ichinose's 1,500 bet was called by Ivey and one other. From there, the {6-Spades}{4-Hearts} turn and river were checked through. Ichinose opened {a-Clubs}{4-Clubs} but lost out to Ivey's {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.
