Flush Over Flush Sends Kanit to the Rail

Level 6 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We missed the elimination of Mustapha Kanit, but Stephen Chidwick was kind enough to fill us in on some details.

As he told it, Kanit opened and then called a three-bet from Yuri Dzivielevski. Kanit then called a bet on the {j-}{9-}{3-} flop, which contained a single diamond, and then bet after Dzivielevski checked the {6-Diamonds} turn.

When the {4-Diamonds} river put three diamonds on board, Dzivielevski checked and then called when Kanit moved all in. Kanit held the {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a queen-high flush, but it was no good as Dzivielevski held the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} for the ace-high flush.

Cates Enters

Level 6 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The tournament is currently up to 99 entries including Daniel Cates, who just sat down in between Paul Newey and Igor Kurganov. The table is completed by John Juanda, Eugene Katchalov and Martin Finger, making this one of the toughest tables in the room.

Cates, mostly a cash game player, has never cashed an event in Australia, but with plenty of high stakes action to go around in the upcoming 10 days, he could be looking at making some runs. Recently, during EPT Prague, Cates built a huge stack in the High Roller but ultimately busted in sixth place for €138,110.

Holz Runs into Solomos' Aces

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

[Removed:17] just recapped Fedor Holz's bust out for us, as the German pro ran into Nick Solomos' pocket aces.

According to Yan, Holz raised to 2,000 and Solomos three-bet to 6,000 after which Holz made it 14,000. Solomos put Holz all in for an additional 30,000 and the recent winner of two Super High Rollers called with pocket jacks.

Holz's jacks fell to Solomos' top starting hand, and we're anticipating a re-entry from Holz before late registration closes.

Kurganov Picks Off Juanda's Bluff

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

With 4,300 in the pot on a final board of {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, John Juanda checked to Igor Kurganov. Kurganov bet 2,100, and Juanda tanked for a little bit before he check-raised to 20,000. Kurganov then went into the tank, and he eventually made the call. Juanda turned up the {A-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for ace high, and it was Kurganov's {Q-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a pair of eights that won the pot.

Yan Gets Two Streets of Value

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

Action folded to [Removed:17] in the small blind and he limped in for 800. Faraz Jaka in the big blind checked his option and they took a flop of {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Both of 'em checked and saw the {8-Spades} for free. Yan bet out 1,600 and Jaka wasted no time calling. The {3-Diamonds} completed the board and this time Yan made a bet of 5,100. Jaka called, but mucked after being shown {K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Urbanovich and Sammartino Chase Success Down Under

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

Up until a few days ago neither Dzmitry Urbanovich nor Dario Sammartino had any cashes in Australia, but the former managed to cash in the $1,025 Mix Max where he finished ninth for $5,525 already, giving him a taste of success at the Aussie Millions.

Both Sammartino and Urbanovich have been extremely successful in the last 12 months, and they will be among the contenders here in every event. With a $100k and $250k Challenge on the schedule already we might see them clash numerous times, and just now we got a little preview.

The flop showed {3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} when Urbanovich check-called a bet of 2,200 and on the turn the {A-Spades} hit. This time both players checked and Urbanovich picked up the pot on the {6-Spades} when his bet of 6,800 went uncalled.

Send One to Seidel

Level 5 : 400/800, 100 ante

Sylvain Loosli raised to 1,700 from the hijack and Erik Seidel called from the small blind. After Tony Bloom folded the big, the two players saw a flop of {q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}, which they both checked. Seidel then led out for 2,000 on the {9-Clubs} turn, Loosli called, and the {6-Spades} completed the board on the river.

Seidel bet again, this time 4,000, and it proved enough to push Loosli off the hand.
