Game Over for Van Zadelhoff

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Steven van Zadelhoff
Steven van Zadelhoff

Steven van Zadelhoff lost almost all of his stack in a set under set scenario against Dinesh Velupillay and was left with crumbs. According to Velupillay, the duo got into a three-bet pot and headed to a {7-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop with bet and call incoming. Velupillay check-called a bet of 10,000 on the {Q-Clubs} turn and check-shoved the {K-} river into a bet of 26,000 by van Zadelhoff. The Dutchman called with pocket fives only to get shown {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} by Velupillay.

Then, Zachary Tay "raised" 700 and as that was less than 50%, it was ruled as a limp from middle position only. It folded to van Zadelhoff, who checked in the big blind and the duo checked the {10-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop and the {J-Spades} turn. The {9-Hearts} river brought a bet of van Zadelhoff for 1,000 and a call by Tay.

The Dutchman showed {J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Velupillay turned over the {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}. "Nice limp," van Zadelhoff joked and caused laughter at the table. Soon after he was all in for 2,950 with {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs} against the {J-Hearts}{4-Hearts} of Velupillay and doubled thanks to the board {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Spades}.

"Can you please double through someone else?" Velupillay grinned.

As if it was destiny, the two clashed again shortly after, and it would be Van Zadelhoff's last hand in the 2018 Main Event. With 5,500, Van Zadelhoff was up with {A-Clubs}{9-Spades} against Velupillay's {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, who told Van Zadelhoff he didn't want to bust him.

Velupillay's mercy wasn't answered by the poker gods, as the dealer fanned out {Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} to seal Van Zadelhoff's fate.

Brown Down But Not Out

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Rory Brown was spotted all in and at risk for his last 6,625 and the Irishman was in need of help after finding himself dominated with {A-Spades}{5-Clubs} versus {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Brown got there on the {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{J-Spades} board to double his short stack with trips fives and remain in contention one seat over from 2015 Aussie Millions champion Manny Stavropoulos.

More for De Laat

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

The player in the cutoff limped in and Bas de Laat raised on the button before a short stack in the big blind committed his last 6,075. The cutoff called and De Laat moved all in over the top to isolate successfully.

Big blind: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Bas de Laat: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}{A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and the kicker played to award the pot to the Dutchman.

Egan Wins a Big One

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

Michael Egan's raise to 1,300 was called by one player before Thomas Boivin in the big blind three-bet to 4,000. Only Egan called and both remaining players checked the {J-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop and the {5-Spades} turn. Boivin bet the {3-Hearts} turn for 7,500 and Egan raised it up to 23,500. Boivin reluctantly called for a big portion of his stack and mucked when Egan showed the {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} for a rivered set.

One hand later, Craig Mason raised to 1,300 and Egan three-bet to 4,200. Mason was having none of it and made it 11,500 to go in order to force a fold.

Mehta Gets Big After Two Outer

Level 6 : 250/500, 75 ante

The player on the button raised and Pratik Mehta in the big blind three-bet only for his opponent to four-bet to 11,000. Mehta moved all in for effectively 45,000 and the button quickly called.

Button: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Pratik Mehta: {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}

The board came {7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and the jack on the turn gave Mehta the superior full house and boost his stack nicely.

A Big Double for Ruge

Level 7 : 300/600, 100 ante

"Pretty sick heater," Arne Ruge admitted after a big double through Amar Anand, while the latter replied "how many times have I three-bet and four-bet you?!"

Ruge raised from the cutoff, Anand three-bet the button and Ruge four-bet to 11,800. Anand moved all in and the German snap-called for a very specific reason.

Arne Ruge: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}
Amar Anand: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

The board of {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} brought no upset and Ruge doubled for 104,000. In the next hand, Ruge opened again and Najeem Ajez three-bet to 4,100 in order to force a quick fold.
