Young Over Karlic After Some Thought

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

Gerald Karlic opened on the button and Max Young made it 2,200 in the big blind. Karlic peeled to see {2-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop. Young bet 1,300 and Karlic called. Both checked the {q-Spades} and the {9-Clubs} completed the board. Young bet big with 6,000 and Karlic went into the tank. After a couple of minutes, he opted to call, but Young had flopped top set with {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}.

Nguyen Sends Ulmer to the Rail

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante

With the flop showing {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Hearts}, Chi Thinh Nguyen moved all in and Timothy Ulmer eventually called it off for his last 7,650.

Timothy Ulmer: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Chi Thinh Nguyen: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

The {6-Diamonds} turn gave Ulmer a straight but he still needed to dodge hearts on the river, which unfortunately wasn't the case with the {8-Hearts} as final card.

Defending Champion Shurane Vijayaram in the Field

Level 4 : 150/300, 25 ante
Shurane Vijayaram - $10,000 Main Event Aussie Millions Winner 2017
Shurane Vijayaram - $10,000 Main Event Aussie Millions Winner 2017

In the field since Level 1 today is defending champion Shurane "Shane" Vijayaram. Last year he turned a $130 satellite seat into a $1.6m score and is back playing the Aussie Millions Main Event 12 months on.

"It's awesome to be back," said Vijayaram. "Playing at my home casino; it's awesome and there's a great atmosphere. Everoyne is having fun - I mean, everyone likes to have a punt.

"It's just a great festival."

Vijayaram says he's played here a couple of times since his win, but today has been an up and down start.

"I was up a little bit. But then I flopped a king-high flush and my opponent turned a boat. Still in, and it's a long day so there are plenty of hands still to play."

And what advice does he have for anyone playing in their first major tournament, just like he did last year?

"I’d say just play it like every other tournament. Like I said, they're long days so don't get disheartened that you lose or because you're down a little bit. There's a lot of hands still to come!"

Chong's Cold Welcome; Lewis Jams

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Victor Chong had just registered for the event and faced a raise to 1,000 and a call. Chong in the big blind three-bet to 4,500 and the initial raiser folded, the small blind called. On the {K-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop, the small blind check-called a bet of 4,000 and led the {J-Spades} turn for 11,000. Chong checked his cards twice and let go eventually.

Toby Lewis, usually very calm when playing, had been spotted jumping out of his seat before the dinner break after being bluffed out of a big pot. Just now he faced the very same opponent again and the completed board of {K-Clubs}{6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{J-Hearts} had created a pot of 22,000 already. Lewis moved all in for 10,950 and his opponent tanked, the clock was called on him and one minute ran down without any decision to kill the cards.
