Favorable Runout Gives Smith A Boost

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

All of the chips got into the middle preflop between Ian Smith in the cutoff and his opponent in the hijack.

Hijack: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Ian Smith: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

"Aces versus ace-king," said another player at the table. The flop {3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} prompted more of a reaction from the table before everything got silent for the turn {9-Clubs}. Things only stayed quiet for a moment, however, as the river {10-Hearts} came to give Smith Broadway and earn him the pot.

The hijack's stack was counted to be 149,000, while Smith's was just beyond that at 166,000. As a result, he earned the knockout and now has a stack north of 300,000 going into the final 40-minute level of the night.

Four Tables Remain

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

The field is now down to 32 players and just four full tables remain with 10 minutes remaining in the penultimate level of the evening. Dapo Ajayi and Mark Hodge are among the most recent batch of eliminations.

Zaki Sends One To The Showers And Takes The Chip Lead

Level 13 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante
Justin Zaki
Justin Zaki

Chad Brown saw action fold to him in the hijack and opened to 8,000. Justin Zaki called in the small blind and the big blind defended, taking three-way action to a flop of {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}.

Zaki checked and the big blind bet 20,000. Brown asked how much he had left and the player told him not much, moving his hands to display 7,000 behind. Brown took one more look at his cards and then shot them to the middle of the felt face-down, putting action back onto Zaki, who raised and received an all-in call for less.

"You're gonna win," said the all-in player as he turned over {9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. Zaki tabled [jts] and was already well ahead.

The turn {9-Hearts} gave Zaki the nuts and the river {5-Diamonds} completed the runout to make the hand official, earning him the pot and the knockout, and he now a few tall piles of chips totaling about 350,000, which is the largest stack in the room at present moment.

Final Break of the Night

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante

The final 39 players are on their last 15-minute break of the night. Upon their return, two more levels of 40 minutes apiece will be played to their completion to finish play for the night.

Eyzaguirre Over A Quarter-Million

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Ricardo Eyzaguirre
Ricardo Eyzaguirre

Ricardo Eyzaguirre was just seen with a stack of 265,000 shortly before the final break of the night and was kind enough to recount how he amassed such a stack.

According to Eyzaguirre, he opened under the gun and received calls from over half the table. He checked a flop of {q-}{9-}{3-} and the hijack put in 40,000, more than half their stack. Eyzaguirre check-raised the player all in for what wound up being 70,000 effective and the player called off his remaining 30,000.

All-In Player: {j-}{10-}
Ricardo Eyzaguirre: {k-}{k-}

A running {q-}{5-} left Eyzaguirre's cowboys on top as his opponent's open-ended straight draw bricked out.

"I've Never Seen Two Faster Folds In My Life!"

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Dapo Ajayi

Action folded around to Scott Stewart in the hijack and he opened to 5,000. Both Taylor Howard on the button and Dapo Ajayi in the big blind called.

"The three amigos, huh?" said Stewart as the dealer fanned a flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Ajayi checked over to Stewart, who continuation-bet 4,000 and saw Howard make it 12,000 to go.

Ajayi confirmed the amount and then sat still for a handful of seconds before reaching for chips and tossing in a check-three-bet to 32,000. Stewart and Howard both folded before Ajayi's chips hit the felt.

"Slow down!" Ajayi said, prompting some laughter from his two opponents across the table. A little more back-and-forth ensued with Ajayi showing {6-Diamonds} and chiding the two to at least let him get the impression they were thinking about their decisions.

"I had already thought about my decision when you reached for chips!" laughed Howard.

"I've never seen two faster folds in my life!" responded Ajayi.

Arbaugh Wins Two

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Brian Arbaugh
Brian Arbaugh

Hand #1: Tommy Tran opened the action with a raise to 6,000 in middle position and was called by Brian Arbaugh in the hijack. The big blind also defended, taking action three ways to the flop {2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. The big blind checked to Tran, who made a continuation-bet of 8,000 and received a call only from Arbaugh.

Action was then heads up to the turn {a-Hearts} and Tran checked. Arbaugh fired out 12,000 and received a call from Tran, bringing the river {9-Clubs} where both players checked to take the hand to showdown.

Tran tabled {8-Spades}{4-Spades} for two pair, and Arbaugh tabled {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for a better two pair to win the pot.

Hand #2: On the very next hand, Arbaugh opened to 6,000 in middle position and went heads up to flop of {5-Spades}{9-Spades}{j-Diamonds} against the small blind. The small blind check-called 4,000 and the turn came {10-Diamonds}.

The small blind checked over to Arbaugh a second time, and Arbaugh continued with a second barrel of 17,000. Fifteen seconds later, the small blind's hand was in the muck and Arbaugh was raking in his second pot in as many hands.
