2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open
We caught up with Rob Voigt recently, a recreational player who made a splash at last summer's World Series of Poker. Voigt didn't win a bracelet during poker's premier festival, but jewelry did play a major part in his story.
Voigt proposed to his fiancé Cecilia on the Rio's main stage, with a packed house of poker pros standing by as witnesses. The scene was a special one within the often gritty world of tournament poker, showing that there is always so much more to life than flops and folds.
Rob took a shot here on Day 1b, ultimately falling short just before the re-entry period concluded. His better half, however, has persevered despite riding a short stack for much of the day, and she is still in contention late in the evening.
What makes Cecilia's performance even more impressive is that she's not doing it alone: the couple recently found out that they are expecting their first child. About eight weeks along now, Cecilia has been coping with the usual symptoms all mothers have suffered through during pregnancy, but despite the occasional bout of nausea and fatigue, she has weathered the storm to build a respectable stack late in the day.
With a wedding date set for May 11th, and a baby on the way in about seven months, this poker pair is set to become three of a kind. And with a $1 million guaranteed prize pool up for grabs, both are hoping to make a life-changing score here at the Borgata Spring Poker Open.

We saw Joseph Mullins celebrate with a fist pump after the river card was dealt, and after heading over to take a look, it turned out he had tripled up in a confrontation of pocket pairs.
The final board read ![]()

The two other players in the pot held ![]()

As everyone was filing out of the room to take a break, a big hand was brewing on Table 1. When we arrived, there was about 15,000 in the middle on a flop of ![]()

, and Sean Wallace had a bet of 12,000 in front of him. Anthony Conte moved all in for 57,000, and James Woods was in the tank.
"There's so much in the pot," Woods grumbled. "S***!"
He eventually cold-called, and Wallace folded.
Conte showed ![]()

"I can't win," he sighed, showing ![]()

Woods wasn't drawing dead though - running cards could give him a full house, or if the turn and river put a straight on board the duo would chop the pot - and the turn was a repeat ten; the
. Conte filled up, making sevens full of tens, but any eight or deuce on the river would give Woods a superior full house.
The
on the river was a brick, however, and Conte shipped a massive pot. Woods fell to around 30,000 chips.

In one of the last hands before the recent break, Tom Dobrilovic scored a massive double up to give himself one of the bigger stacks in the room. Here's what went down:
A player in the cutoff opened for 7,300 and the action folded around to Dobrilovic, who three-bet jammed for 64,700. A third player put her last 5,200 at risk as well, and with the action back on him, the opener decided to call off the majority of his stack with ![]()
