Stay Gold Teddy Boy

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Ted Goldbergh
Ted Goldbergh

We caught up with Ted Goldbergh recently - a Manhattan-based litigator who was profiled along with his wife Debbie during the Borgata Winter Poker Open - finding him flush with chips after dodging a flush draw.

Goldbergh was happily dragging a huge pot his way when we passed by, and after a brief chat it turned out he woke up with {K-}{K-} while his opponent held a suited {A-}{q-}.

That player flopped a four-flush on a baby card board, and paired his queen on the turn, but he paid a hefty price to do so as Goldbergh bet big on both streets.

When the river bricked off to leave his opponent with top pair and top kicker - but no nut flush - Goldbergh fired a third barrel on fifth street, with the other player's crying call pushing a huge pot in the attorney's direction.

"See You Later, Guys"

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante

Maggie Morris opened to 400 from under the gun, Micah Raskin called on her direct left, a third player called in middle position, and both players in the blinds came along for the ride.

The dealer fanned {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, both blinds checked, and Morris continued for 1,500. Raskin got out of the way, the player in middle position raised to 4,000, and the action folded back to Morris. She moved all in, and her opponent sighed.

"See you later, guys," he said, committing the rest of his stack.

Morris showed {a-Spades}{q-Spades} for a pair of aces, and her lamenting opponent was actually ahead with {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for top two pair.

Unfortunately for the gentleman, his prediction rang true as the {q-Diamonds} spiked on the felt on the turn, giving Morris a superior two pair. The {2-Spades} bricked off on the river, and Morris dragged in the pot. She's already up to 38,000 chips.

The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City
The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City

The 2014 Borgata Spring Poker Open is underway here in Atlantic City, New Jersey, kicking off with a $560 no-limit hold’em reentry event today. Taking place at one of the finest gaming destinations Atlantic City has to offer, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is a definite crowd pleaser featuring a luxurious spa, a variety of fine-dining restaurants, and a stylish nightlife to help get your mind off the bad beats taken at the poker tables.

There are a number of different dining options available inside the Borgata making it convenient to never require leaving the hotel. Whether you are looking for something quick and easy, or something a bit higher-end, the Borgata has a taste to satisfy and meet your needs.

Bread + Butter is the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon bite serving up sandwiches and gourmet beverages. One perk is the breakfast menu left as an all-day selection, making it a great spot for those late-night craves. The classic grilled cheese is a patron favorite, or you can also try the Portobello and provolone griddled sandwich, both of which — along with most of the menu — are $10 or less and won’t break the bank.

As a man who has revolutionized the culinary industry, Wolfgang Puck has served up bold and innovative cooking for years and now offers contemporary American cuisine in an upscale setting at the Borgata, as part of his first East Coast venture. Enjoy truffled potato chips, spicy lamb chorizo pizza, or a prime burger from the tavern menu as a less-expensive dinner option. Or you can treat your taste buds and choose one of the many options from the main course on the fine dining menu.

Once you’ve had your fill of the action at the poker tables, take the time to sit back, relax and enjoy a glass or two of your favorite drink.

Gypsy Bar specializes in tequila but also offers an eclectic beer selection and compliments your drink with a roaring atmosphere of live music. The intimate space has seating at the bar, traditional pub tables, and comfortable armchairs for a lounge-type feel. Low lighting also helps to keep the mood mellow. Oh, and don’t be afraid to get a little crazy. Gypsy Bar comes complete with a dance floor allowing you to move your feet to the best sounds in town.

Never been to the Atlantic City or to the Borgata? Then MIXX is the first place to check out because it fully captivates what the Borgata is all about. As a performance-driven dance club, MIXX is home to some of the most renowned DJs and official concert after-parties. With its high ceilings, two levels, and plenty of VIP tables, MIXX has more of a mega club feel than its local counterparts. You will find trapeze artists swinging from the rafters, and celebrities passing through on any given night.

OK so maybe the club scene isn’t for you. Don't worry, because Borgata comes fully equipped with the most luxurious of spas on the east coast. Dedicated to undoing the effects of your day, Spa Toccare offers relaxing treatments guaranteed to exhilarate. It is definitely the place where tensions melt and knots disappear. Sounds like a typical effect from a 12-hour poker session. So emerge yourself into the comforts of their many services and elevate your well being, if even just for an hour or two.

Surely, whatever you choose to do while staying at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, you will be surprised to have a Las Vegas experience with an East Coast twist.

Raskin Reaching Deep for Reentries

Level 3 : 100/200, 0 ante
Micah Raskin is no longer saying thumbs up after dropping another bullet early on Day 1c
Micah Raskin is no longer saying thumbs up after dropping another bullet early on Day 1c

After firing multiple bullets during the first two starting flights, longtime pro and veteran of the European high-roller circuit Micah Raskin has missed the mark yet again.

The bleeding began when Raskin doubled a short stack up, as his {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} was outkicked by the {K-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} on a queen-high board.

According to his former tablemates, Raskin held {4-}{4-} shortly thereafter and found a third four on the {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{j-} flop. After Raskin and two opponents - including Dennis Zollo - checked around, a {3-} fell on fourth street.

That's when Raskin min-raised a half-pot bet, only to see Zollo three-bet the turn. Only Raskin called that bet, and when the river came {2-} he check-shoved for his remaining chips, only to see that Zollo had made the nuts with his {6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

With that, yet another attempt by Raskin to build a Day 2 stack went by the wayside.

Z-U On the Flip Side

Level 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With the flop reading {9-Clubs}{q-Spades}{7-Spades} a player who identified himself only as "Z-U" checked from the small blind, prompting a bet of 875 from an opponent in early position.

This bet was called by a third player on the button, while "Z-U" also flatted to see the {9-Hearts} fall on fourth street. All three players in the hand tapped the table and the dealer revealed the {j-Hearts} on the river.

The man known only as "Z-U" decided to pounce on the pot with a bet of 1,150, and he was called in one spot by the player in early position. Our mystery man quickly tabled {9-Spades}{10-Spades} for trip nines on the turn, while his opponent could only muster the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for top pair.
