Turned Flush Secures a Double for Gheriani

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A 13,200 three-bet from the big blind was staring Ezra Gheriani in the face, he elected to call from the cutoff as he went toe-to-toe with his opponent to the {a-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Spades} flop.

The big blind player bet 6,500, Gheriani moved all in for 11,500 and his opponent snap-called. Gheriani turned over {5-Spades}{4-Spades} for a flush draw and his opponent showed {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for top pair.

The {3-Spades} landed on the turn, giving Gheriani his flush and the pot as his opponent was now drawing dead to the {9-Hearts} river card. Gheriani took down the pot for a complete double through his opponent and now has over double his starting stack.

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Wooyang Lin
Wooyang Lin

After the under-the-gun player jammed for 13,100, action folded around to Wooyang Lin in late position, who got the count, then opted to call. His {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts} was racing against {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}.

The board came {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and was all Lin's who flopped top two pair to claim the pot. He's more than doubled his staring stack, playing about 64,000 as they head into the second break of the day.

Gleason's Tens Hold

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Tom Gleason
Tom Gleason

Tom Gleason and the player in Seat 10 got all their chips in the middle pre-flop. When the hands were rolled over, Tom's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} were well ahead of his opponent's {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}.

The runout of {q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{8-Hearts} missed both players and Tom's pair held up to take the pot, sending him back above starting-stack size. The unfortunate player with pocket nines was felted and headed for the exit.

Reeves Vows to Return Tomorrow

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante

Maryland's Greg Reeves, who will be celebrating his birthday on Friday, stopped by the media desk to inform us of his elimination from the Day 1a flight.

As he told it, he lost a big pot holding pocket aces after flopping top set on a two-diamond flop. His opponent held the {6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}, the chips went in, and Reeves did not end up the winner as two more diamonds came in.

Not long after, Reeves held {a-}{9-} on a {9-}{10-}{a-} flop. He got the rest of his chips in only to discover his opponent had flopped a bigger two pair with {a-}{10-}. Reeves failed to catch another nine and hit the rail. He'll return though as he plans to fire again tomorrow.

Lacey Doubles with Rockets

Level 8 : 400/800, 800 ante
Patrick Lacey
Patrick Lacey

A player in middle position opened to 2,800 and Pat Lacey moved all in for 18,600. The initial raiser took a moment to think but ultimately called and the two turned over their cards with Lacey at risk.

Pat Lacey: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Lacey took down the pot with his pair of aces, doubling through his opponent.

Lacey is no stranger to the Borgata tournaments as almost half of his cashes have come from these very events. His biggest cash to date came in 2015 during the Borgata Fall Poker Open in Event #1: $500 + 60 No-Limit Hold'em - Deepstack for $45,590.
