Bernardo Soares Rockets Into the Chip Lead on the Last Hand of Day 3 in the $6,000 BSOP Championship
Bernardo Soares waited for the last possible moment before seizing the chip lead on Day 3 of the R$30,000 ($6,000 US) Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) Championship.
Soares spiked a set of sixes on the flop to crack Alcioni Pollermann’s sevens and bring the field down to the final 24 who will return for Day 4 tomorrow. The bustout of Pollermann pushed Soares up to 5,625,000 at the end of the night and atop the leaderboard. Soares had earlier doubled up in an aces-versus-kings classic cooler against Isabella Costa to begin his ascent up the chip counts.

Gregory Fabiao sits in second place with 5,465,000, picking off a big bluff from Pedro Padilha on the river to double up before hitting a set of jacks to bust Marin Gechev. Ramiro Araujo (5,190,000), Giorgio Tonin (4,755,000), and Diones Lopes (4,280,000) round out the top five.
While they aren’t in the top 10, the two biggest talkers left in the tournament are Leonardo Rizzo and Martin Kabrhel. Usually, the jabs were directed at each other. “Kabrhel, you bust today!” Rizzo shouted out to Kabrhel after busting another player earlier in the day.
Rizzo took a big chip lead when his set of fours outflopped Marcelo Aziz’s pocket tens to score the knockout, moving Rizzo up past 5,000,000. He slid down the leaderboard later in the night and ended up with 3,555,000. Kabrhel also enjoyed his time as chip leader, hitting a set of sevens to knock out Joao Simao and Vladas Tamasauskas on the same hand. He bagged up 3,125,000 entering the event’s penultimate day.
Others to advance to Day 4 include Day 1d chip leader Frederico Nizzato (3,720,000), Padilha (3,650,000), Renan Bruschi (3,640,000), Vitor Dzivielevski (2,630,000), and WSOP bracelet winner Paulo Joanello (2,060,000). Short stacks include Dante Goya (1,080,000), Daria Krashennikova (960,000), and Alen Fillipi (440,000).
Day 3 began with 75 players returning to the WTC Sheraton in Sao Paulo out of 714 entries. Along the way, Alisson Piekazewicz (75th), Laurie Tournier (67th), Thiago Crema (30th), and Fabiano Kovalski (29th) were sent to the payout desk. The strangest knockout wasn’t even in a pot. Leandro Zavodini came into Day 3 with a stack of 1,520,000, just outside the top 10, but he never showed up and his stack was eventually blinded down more than six hours later as he ended up in 34th.
The remaining 24 players return tomorrow at 2 p.m. local time to play down to the final table. The action picks up with 75 minutes remaining in Level 21 with blinds of 30,000/60,000 and a 60,000 big blind ante. Everyone left has locked up R$100,000 ($20,000 US), while a spot at the final table is worth R$275,000 ($55,000 US). The eventual champion takes home R$4,000,000 ($800,000 US).
PokerNews will be back tomorrow following all the action and providing live updates as the final table is in sight for the remaining 24 players.
